Auto Alpina is an auto repair shop at 1499 San Pablo Ave in Berkeley, California, serving drivers looking for practical, experienced vehicle care close to home. With a 4.6 rating from 51 reviews, the shop has received many positive comments about its work, pricing, and personal approach. The available feedback portrays a no-frills setting where attention stays on the car's actual issue rather than unnecessary additions. That practical focus can matter to Berkeley motorists deciding where to bring a car when it needs knowledgeable attention and a straightforward discussion of the problem. Reviews describe repairs that customers felt were completed well and at a good price, though individual needs and timing can vary.
Customer accounts describe hands-on diagnostic thinking as an important part of the Auto Alpina experience. One long-time customer says Norick goes to the root of a problem and avoids replacing parts that do not need replacement, a detail that can be valuable for owners making repair decisions. Another review reports an urgent battery replacement on a BMW 328 that was completed immaculately. A separate customer brought a 1987 Mercedes-Benz W124 E300 in for an oxygen-sensor concern and reported that an original part was installed and the car ran much better afterward. These examples are customer experiences, not a guarantee, but they illustrate attention to both immediate repair needs and possible underlying causes. The review set also highlights confidence in returning to the shop.
The atmosphere customers describe is personal and unpretentious rather than polished or gimmick-driven. One reviewer calls it unlike an average auto shop, noting a friendly greeting when stopping by with a concern. Customers also point to Norick's lengthy experience in the business; one review mentions more than 40 years, while another says they have returned for over 20 years. This may be a good fit for drivers who value seasoned mechanical judgment and results over a highly formal retail-style service experience. Some feedback notes that reaching the shop by phone can be difficult, and a customer described an appointment delay. Those details are useful context for people who prioritize a smooth scheduling process, while other customers prefer stopping in to discuss the issue directly.
Auto Alpina is open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM, and is closed Saturday and Sunday. Its San Pablo Avenue address places it in Berkeley for drivers seeking auto repair during the workweek. Whether the need involves a battery, a sensor-related concern, or diagnosis of a recurring problem, customers can use the shop's review history as one part of choosing a repair provider. The strongest common thread in the feedback is careful problem-solving without replacing parts unnecessarily. For local owners who appreciate a direct, experience-led approach, Auto Alpina remains a grounded Berkeley, CA option for vehicle repair conversations and service.

Sign in to reviewBest service best ownership. Best technician I needed a battery replaced on my BMW 328 in a hurry and they did an immaculate job. Definitely trust them and coming back, thank you!!
I go to Norick for 20+ years and I am never disappointed. He is very knowledgeable, goes to the root of the problem, and never replaces parts that don’t need to be replaced (which I experienced with other mechanics). I trust him! It’s true that Norick is a little disorganized, the work is never done in time, the quotes are not very reliable – be prepared for this. But for the superb quality and prices he charges, I can live with this.
I love this place. Not your average auto shop. No frills and no gimmicks. Sure, it’s not easy to reach the shop via phone, but if you’re not fussy, just stop by with your issue and Norick will greet you with a big smile. He’s been in the biz for 40 years and knows his stuff in and out, up and down and all around.
Mixed feelings.. they had done some work to my car and done a good job for a good price. But the other week my car started cutting out, i was going to take to them again but they told me 9.30 and I waited till gone 10am and left tock it to another garage, they did the inspection and work and it was a wire that this garage did not rote properly when doing my timing belt last year that was causing a short. A simple mistake that void of had a very bad outcome.
A mixed feeling from reading the review before I went. My 1987 W124 e300 having an issue with o2 sensor(nothing major), but I don't want to do it myself. My sensors changed with an original part for a little more money which didn't mind it. The car run much better which I expected but more importantly is I found a shop that I would take my oldie to now. Norik who is a guy of long experiences in Mercedes that talk less, do more. I like the local small 40 years shop and want to see it around for more years!
