Bao Nine is an Asian fusion restaurant at 38 S 19th St in Philadelphia, PA, offering a casual place to enjoy bao buns with fillings and flavors inspired by more than one cuisine. Customer reviews describe a bright, relaxing setting with some seating, friendly staff, and prompt service. It can suit visitors looking for a relaxed lunch or meal while they are in the city, as well as anyone curious about a bao-focused menu with a variety of options. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., according to its listed hours.
A standout choice mentioned by customers is the three-bun special, also described as a three-bao combo. Reviewers say that ordering a selection makes it easy to try different fillings in one visit, and one customer found three bao filling enough for a meal. The cauliflower bun and mahi bun were specifically recommended in a review of a late lunch, with the food praised for tasting fresh and having nice flavors. Other diners appreciate the variety and the way the bao format is paired with flavors from different cuisines. These are useful starting points if you want to sample more than one option, though individual tastes and appetites vary.
The experience is described as casual rather than formal: reviewers mention a cute, bright space, some seating, and service that can be friendly, helpful, and fast. That makes Bao Nine a practical choice for a quick stop or an informal meal with a companion. Feedback on the food is not entirely uniform, which is helpful context when deciding what to order. Some customers describe the food as solid and delicious, while others have found particular sauces too salty or wished for more filling relative to the soft, bready bao. The specific item and personal preference may shape how each meal lands, so consider the range of opinions rather than expecting every dish to suit everyone.
Bao Nine has a listed rating of 4.6 from 846 reviews, offering prospective diners a broad set of customer impressions alongside the menu recommendations. Its central Philadelphia address places it at 38 S 19th St, Philadelphia, PA 19103, United States. Whether you are visiting nearby, stopping in for lunch, or simply looking to explore bao with a fusion approach, the three-bun special is a frequently suggested way to get a feel for the selection. Check the listed opening hours when planning a visit, especially on Sunday, when the restaurant opens at 11:00 a.m. rather than 10:00 a.m.

Stopped here for a late lunch while visiting the city. It’s a bright, relaxing atmosphere with some seating. The staff was friendly and helpful. We got the three bun special and weren’t disappointed. Everything tasted fresh with nice flavors. Definitely recommend the cauliflower bun, mahi bun and the Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly. The buns are on the smaller side but eating three was just right. Overall a nice experience and I’d definitely visit again.
This place was a nice, casual spot for some good food! Food: 4/5. The food was very solid and overall delicious! The only thing I have to say is that the bao filling was quite minimal and I could taste much more of the outer bready part as opposed to the filling. Service: 5/5. Fast and prompt! Atmosphere: Chill, spacious, and casual! Great spot for a casual hangout or bite with friends. Overall, I would recommend this spot if you are in the area and wanting a relatively cheap but delicious bite.
Wow what a unique idea for a business, if you love Bao Buns you’ll of course love this spot! I love the variety of Bao options and it’s a nice fusion of Bao with flavors of all different cuisines, not just Asian. Like many others I also recommend the three Bao combo, 3 is enough to fill you and it’s a solid value. Even if you want more $5.95 is a great price per one. My favorite is the lil bao wow because I love the way they incorporate the Philly staple of roast pork! I 100% recommend this spot!
Went here a few weeks ago since I was in the area for the Panda Fest that was at city hall, and had a great experience while here, the food and the service were both great! It is a bit pricey but it definitely well worth it honestly. Would definitely recommend and I’d definitely come back again in the future.
Came in because of the high reviews and the place itself is pretty cute. Personally found the sauce on the sticky chicky too salty though. Food overall was mid compared to other bao places ive been to.
