Customer feedback highlights experiences with agents such as Marie Cristale Auger and Mr. James Earl Garrett, with several reviewers describing friendly communication, professionalism, and help understanding each step. One first-time buyer noted that the process felt easier because the agent communicated consistently and was honest throughout. Sellers have also described responsive calls and emails, a smoother listing experience, and support that helped reduce stress during a high-stakes transaction.
The atmosphere described in many positive reviews is personal, direct, and relationship-focused rather than rushed. The office’s location on MacArthur Boulevard places Better Homes Realty within reach of Oakland residents looking for a real estate office rooted in the local market, not just a remote or online-only service. For sellers, the business may be useful when discussing listing strategy, buyer interest, showings, and the coordination needed to move from offer to closing.
Like many real estate offices, reviews are mixed, and prospective clients should approach the relationship thoughtfully. Better Homes Realty has a 3.9 rating based on 21 reviews, with both strong praise and serious concerns appearing in customer comments. That makes it important to ask direct questions about communication expectations, timelines, inspection procedures, representation, and who will handle each part of the transaction. A good first conversation can help clarify whether the agent’s style fits your needs.
For buyers, sellers, and property owners in Oakland, CA, Better Homes Realty may be worth considering if you want a local real estate consultant with reported experience helping first-time buyers and homeowners through important real estate decisions. The best fit is likely someone who appreciates one-on-one guidance, wants availability during standard daytime and weekend hours, and is prepared to communicate clearly from the beginning about goals, concerns, and expectations.

Sign in to reviewI worked with agent Marie Cristale Auger, she was very friendly and professional working with me. Marie knew I was a 1st time home buyer and made my experience very easy. She communicated every single step of the way. I appreciated her honesty and candor. I will definitely be working with her when I am ready to purchase my next investment. I highly recommend Marie for anyone buying or selling their home. Yacoa
I listed my house for sale with Mr. James Earl Garrett of Better Homes Realty and I couldn't be happier. Mr. Garrett was extremely professional through the entire process. My calls were always answered as were my e-mails immediately. Mr. Garret made selling my home an easy stress free process and I would recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat. If you are looking to buy or sell you should do yourself a favor and give him a call.
Do not do business with these people. I attended an open house. I spoke to a realtor who was conducting the viewing. I expressed my interest. I told her I would need to have the property inspected before I could move forward. After several emails and phone calls, we set a date for my inspector to inspect the property. Upon arrival and half way through the inspection. He the inspector was asked to stop. I was called and was told by my inspector what had happened. Contacted the agent. She told me she didn't know that an offer had to be made first before an inspection could be done. So I lost my money due to your mistake is what I said. The realtor, continued to ask if I was interested. If so, they would take the inspection fee off the house if my offer was accepted. They agreed to allow the inspection to happen, however i would have to reschedule another inspection but thats another $750. I made calls to the main office to complain. Spoke with the owner. Was given the same run around. Now no one responds back to my phone calls or emails. These are not professional people.
I listed my home with Mr. James Earl Garrett my home sold thousands over the listed price. Mr. Garrett is a Godsend he is very professional and was with me through the process every step of the way. He made the selling of my home stress free and I would recommend him to all my friends and family, or anyone looking to sale a home or business. Thank you Mr. Garrett. ~Faye Johnson
I felt the need to share my experience because it's borderline predatory and elder abuse. I've already called a spoke with the owner but this is still unacceptable. The agent Marie-Cristale called my job to ask a few questions a few months ago and we sparked a conversation. I told her that I was not interested in buying or selling but I might be in the future, so we took each others information. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, she called and we talked for about 20 mins, she was really helpful and gave me options on my situation. I again told her that we were not ready to sell but my grandmother is 94 and has had a stroke so we may want to sell if anything happens to her, but again we are not ready! She then said "Well I can get you some information, but no pressure. Just to let you know." I told her that would be fine and gave her the address. Well fast forward to 2 weeks later. I'm at my grandmothers home and who calls on the house phone, but Marie-Cristale! I NEVER gave her my grandmothers home phone number. I had already told her grandmother is 94, ill and NOT willing to sell her home, so why in the world would she get her number and call her?? People try to scam elders all the time and if my grandmother could have answered the phone no telling what could have happened. I confronted her when she called and she LIED and said that her office gave her the number on a cold call list. Funny how the company would just so happen to give you the number of a house you just ran comps on 2 weeks ago. I feel like Marie acted as a predator and that is totally unacceptable.
