I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with my experience at Blessed Dental in Pasadena, TX, and I would strongly encourage parents to think twice before choosing this office for their children. My son had a root canal on February 17th. Before we left the office, I was told that he would need a crown and that the office would submit a pre-authorization/pre-treatment estimate to insurance to determine whether the crown would be covered. From there, the communication and follow-through have been extremely poor. I began calling the office every other week or once a month to get an update because I was concerned about getting my son's crown completed in a timely manner. Each time, I spoke with different employees who told me they would look into his file and call me back. They repeatedly failed to follow up. I had to keep calling the office myself to get answers about my child's treatment. Eventually, I was given conflicting explanations about what happened. At one point, I was told that the pre-authorization was never submitted. When I questioned this and asked whether the office would take any responsibility for the lack of follow-through, I was then given a completely different explanation. I was later told that a pre-authorization was submitted to Medicaid and that Medicaid denied the crown because they do not cover porcelain crowns. I was also told that my son's Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance was out of network. My concern is this: Why wasn't I informed of these insurance limitations from the beginning? If the office knew that Medicaid would not cover the particular crown being recommended, that should have been communicated to me before we reached this point. I also should have been informed that my son's BCBS insurance was out of network. Even more frustrating, I was previously told that a pre-authorization had never been submitted to BCBS, which contradicts what I was later told about the insurance situation. This isn't just about money or the cost of a crown. This is my child's dental health. I trusted this office to properly communicate with me and help ensure that my son received the follow-up treatment he needed after his root canal. Now I am being told that, in an attempt to rectify the situation, they will charge me $535 for the crown. While I appreciate the offer, it does not erase the months of poor communication, conflicting information, and lack of follow-through. I am particularly concerned because I was trying to address this back in March, and I repeatedly contacted the office for an update. Had I been given accurate information at that time, I could have made an informed decision about how to proceed with my son's crown and avoided allowing the situation to progress this far. I also want to mention that Lucia R., the office manager, was involved in addressing this situation. I believe management should take accountability when a parent repeatedly contacts the office regarding necessary treatment for their child and receives inconsistent information. Lastly, I find it very concerning that patients are encouraged to leave reviews in exchange for a trinket from the office's goody bucket. Positive reviews should come from genuinely satisfied patients and not incentives. Parents should not have to repeatedly call a dental office for months to find out what is happening with their child's necessary dental treatment. I am extremely disappointed with how this situation was handled, and based on my experience, I would not recommend this office to other parents. Please ask detailed questions about insurance coverage, pre-authorizations, and follow-up treatment before proceeding with care here. My son's dental health should have been the priority. Communication and accountability matter ESPECIALLY when you're dealing with a child's treatment.
