Cafe 86 - Union City is a Filipino-inspired dessert shop in Union City, CA, located at 34391 Alvarado-Niles Rd, Union City, CA 94587. Known for ube-forward sweets, cold specialty drinks, and shareable Filipino desserts, this spot gives local dessert lovers a focused menu that feels both familiar and fun. With a 4.5 rating from 170 reviews, it has earned steady attention from guests looking for a treat after lunch, a casual meet-up, or a sweet stop while exploring the East Bay. The appeal is simple: bold flavors, colorful desserts, and options that are easy to enjoy with friends.

One signature guests mention often is the upside down halo halo, praised as sweet, creamy, and especially good for sharing when no one wants to tackle dessert alone. Ube is another clear reason people search out Cafe 86 - Union City: reviews point to ube cheesecake, ube crumble cookies, ube butter bars, ube poptarts, and ube truffles as memorable picks. The ube truffle, in particular, shows up as a favorite among customers who try several treats at once. If you are browsing for a Filipino dessert shop near Union City with ube desserts, halo halo, and bakery-style sweets, this location fits that craving without making the choice feel complicated.

The drink side adds another layer to the experience. Customers highlight Pandan Matcha, Dragonberry Calamansi, Hibiscus Calamansi, and Mermaid Milk Tea, giving the menu a mix of fruity, creamy, floral, and tea-based flavors. Calamansi drinks are described as refreshing and sweet, while the pandan and ube items bring a distinctly Southeast Asian dessert profile that stands out from a standard ice cream or cupcake stop. It is a good match for friends comparing flavors, couples sharing a late-afternoon treat, families picking up something different, or visitors who miss these Filipino dessert favorites while traveling through the Bay Area.

The mood at Cafe 86 - Union City is casual, dessert-first, and built around small moments: ordering several ube treats, splitting halo halo with someone, or grabbing a colorful drink before heading home. Hours begin at 12:30 PM daily, with closing at 9:00 PM Sunday through Thursday and 10:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, making it convenient for both afternoon cravings and weekend dessert runs. Reviews do mention that not every item lands equally for every guest, including mixed notes on flan texture, but the overall pattern is clear: people return for the ube desserts, the drinks, and the shareable halo halo. For anyone looking for a local dessert shop in Union City, CA, Cafe 86 offers a specific and satisfying sweet stop.

Very good upside down halo halo!!! Perfect to share with some friends. The ube flavor was really good. The ube cheesecake is better than the leche flan x ube.

All the treats are delicious. You cannot go wrong. You have to come here. We got ube poptart, ube crumble cookie, ube truffle, ube cheesecake, and ube butterbar. We loved everything but the ube truffle is a favorite! For drinks we got Pandan matcha and Dragonberry Calamansi.

The upside down halo halo - it’s sweet and yummy! It’s a perfect dessert to share if you don’t want all the sweets for yourself. Flan and ube cupcake - ok The flan was way too firm and not smooth. I love flan, so wish it was better. Besides the flan, everything else was good. I’d skip the flan and ube cupcake and go for the upside down halo halo!

Ordered plenty and so far, SO GOOD. Iordered the Upside down Halo Halo, the Hibiscus Calamansi, Mermaid Milk Tea and most of the treats lol. Upside Down Halo Halo...AMAZING. The cornflakes tasted so good and the ice cream on top, so good. Husband's Hibiscus Calamansi, refreshing, sweet, and nothing seemed to overpower each other. Kids Mermaid milk tea was nice, Jasmine notes. Kids inhaled the Chocolate coffee crunch cups and the Banana Langka cups were smooth. Haven't tried the other items yet (need to ease up on the sugar load😉) but can't wait.
