Cal Auto Diagnose & Repair is a local auto repair shop at 508 E Lewelling Blvd in San Lorenzo, CA, serving drivers in San Lorenzo and the surrounding East Bay. The shop is listed at this address in the 94580 area, a practical location for vehicle owners looking for neighborhood repair support. Its local address can be convenient for residents beginning their vehicle-service search close to home. Its 4.6-star rating from 27 reviews offers useful context for people comparing auto repair options in San Lorenzo, California. Customer feedback names Henry and Don, giving prospective visitors a sense of the personal relationships some returning customers have developed with the shop.

Reviews describe Cal Auto Diagnose & Repair as a straightforward, service-focused place rather than a polished waiting-room experience. One customer specifically contrasted the shop with businesses that offer a waxed floor and free coffee, while valuing candid work and pricing. That perspective helps set an appropriate expectation: this may appeal most to drivers who prioritize direct conversations about their cars over showroom-style amenities. A long-time customer said they had used Cal Auto for more than ten years and appreciated Henry's honesty, personable approach, and integrity. Another reviewer called the shop their go-to mechanic and praised honest, good work on repairs.

The work customers mention includes a tune-up and extensive engine repair, along with general repairs, so these are useful topics to discuss when contacting the shop. The reviews also show that experiences are not uniform. One customer questioned a labor charge for a tune-up after supplying the parts, and another raised serious concerns about engine-repair workmanship on a vehicle they had purchased. These reports are individual customer accounts, but they make it sensible to ask for a clear estimate, confirm what labor and supplied parts cover, and review the expected scope of any major repair before authorizing it. Clear communication can help match the repair plan to your vehicle's needs and budget.

For owners of older vehicles, commuters, and anyone seeking an established local mechanic in San Lorenzo, Cal Auto Diagnose & Repair may be worth considering alongside other nearby auto repair shops. Comments from repeat customers emphasize trust, fair treatment, and continuity, including one account of people traveling from San Francisco for the relationship with Henry. At the same time, comparing estimates and discussing repair details is especially important for larger jobs. Hours are not listed in the available business information, so contact the shop directly to confirm availability, current services, appointment arrangements, and timing before making the trip to 508 E Lewelling Blvd. That quick check can also clarify whether the repair concern is appropriate for the shop and how the visit will be handled for you.

$400 for a tuneup and I brought all parts. That’s not even close to what it should cost for labor only for a 30 minute job.

If you are looking for a super clean waxed floor, free coffee kind of shop keep looking...but if you are like me- have an older car and like honest work at a great price - go talk to Henry at this place. He has been doing business in San Lorenzo/San Leandro for a long time and is really fair with the cost of work. They have looked at my car for free when i have been worried about a sound or a possible issue. They have even done small fixes for free. Since my car is old -whenever i go on a long road trip i have them check my car out to make sure it can make it. Any work i needed done has been great ❤ so far so good with this place!

I just purchased a car recently that had extensive engine repair done at this place (their name is on the receipts) and the workmanship was beyond unacceptable! I am a mechanic with over 35 years experience and after only spending a couple of hours on it, so far I have found the following issues: Oil level was over full. 4 bolts that hold the headlights and the grill in (which have to be removed to do the repairs they did) were only finger tight (they forgot to tighten them). Oil filter was way over tightened. Leaking oil like crazy because they did not torque the bolts on the timing cover to their specifications and they failed to replace a $3.00 O-Ring on the cam actuator. I’m afraid I’m going to have to re-do all of the work they did, just so I know it was done right. Also, take note - this place has no reviews anywhere (accept for this one), so buyer beware.

I have been using Cal Auto for over 10 years. Henry is honest, personable and he leads with integrity. He has folks who come from SF to have their cars worked on because they trust him. I always recommend him.
