Com #1 is a Vietnamese restaurant in Houston, TX, serving up some of the most talked-about broken rice in town from its location at 9820 Gulf Fwy. If you grew up on Vietnamese home cooking or you are simply hungry for the real thing, this is a spot worth seking out.

The dish that keps regulars coming back is the cơm tấm sườn bì chả — broken rice with griled pork chop, shreded pork skin, and steamed egg cake. Guests describe the pork chop as well seasoned, juicy, and generously sized, with one reviewer noting plenty of meat for around eleven dollars. What sets the plate apart, according to longtime fans, is the house fish sauce and chili paste, which several diners say taste authentic enough to remind them of food from their hometown in Vietnam. For broken rice lovers, it is an easy place to crave on repeat.

The vibe is casual and busy, especially on weekends. Weekend lunches can get crowded and wait times may run a little long, so plan ahead if you are coming with a group. Service moves quickly once you are settled, and the kitchen keps the plates flowing even during the Sunday morning rush. It is a good fit for solo diners after a quick, satisfying meal, families craving comfort food, and anyone chasing that taste of home.

Com #1 keps a daytime schedule, open Monday and Wednesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. With a 3.9 rating across about 90 reviews, opinions vary, but the consistent praise for the broken rice and the kitchen's authentic flavors makes it a must-try for anyone in the Houston area who takes their cơm tấm seriously. Stop by during open hours, come hungry, and let the pork chop and fish sauce do the talking.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions so here is mine. When you first walk in, there is no place for you to know if you are supposed to wait to be seated or to seat yourself. The smell of cigarettes or some type of fume hits your nose instantly and it just lingers with you throughout the whole meal. The menu is short and simple. But to say that this place is the best for com tam seems to be a reach for me. Food here in my books would be a 2.5 out of 5 at best but like i said everyone is entitled to their own opinions. The pork is tough as a boot, the egg quiche is alittle bland, the broken rice is extremely dry. The springroll is high on the list of one of the worse i have had so far. I understand that it is a different kind but I tasted the same of the different kind and this one just tasted off. The sauce also just seem off also. When I was trying to pay for my check, I had to wait couple of minutes because all of the staff went to the back room on the side of the register to watch TV. Let me know if you agree or disagree!

Okay hear me out! It’s sad that I can only give this place 5 stars. Because it deserves 10, if not more!!! The legendary “cơm tấm sườn bì chả” literally tastes as if I was in Vietnam. From the rice to the fish sauce, so deliciously prepared, and authentic. It was a busy Sunday morning, yet everyone delivered the food to the customers as fast as they could (less than 15 minutes from the time we sat down) I highly recommend this place if you are a fan of “cơm tấm Sài Gòn)

Great food, amazing flavor, plenty of meat for $11. It can get crowded and incur long wait during lunch on the weekends.

The pork chop here is so delicious! Seasoned well, good size, and juicy. We find ourselves craving it! There was a period where we were eating here a couple of times a week. Service is also fast.

Best cơm tấm in town - their fish sauce and chili paste are authentic - that reminds me a lot of texture and flavor from my hometown where I was born. Thanks for keep it open even there are many negative reviews about the services but this place is a must try if u are truly a broken rice fan. Plus the owner is friendly offer me some ice tea Togo when I finished my meal - highly recommended
