The story of Full Metal Jacket, LLC traces back to its original beginnings in historic Old Town Alexandria down by the water. Over the years, the business expanded and transitioned into a first-rate supplier, eventually moving to its current location on South Dove Street. Unlike conventional surplus stores that can feel chaotic or cluttered, stepping into this shop provides an immediate sense of discipline and purpose. The store is widely appreciated for its clean lines, organized layout, and thoughtfully arranged displays that allow customers to easily inspect and appreciate each piece of inventory.

The inventory focuses heavily on genuine American military surplus and authentic tactical gear rather than low-quality commercial replicas. Shoppers regularly find hard-to-acquire items, ranging from vintage and antique militaria to modern tactical components such as Ops-Core helmets, surplus SureFire weapon lights, and specialized infrared (IR) signaling devices. The shop also carries compliant magazines and durable field essentials. Notably, while the store stocks extensive tactical accessories and mounting hardware, it clearly identifies itself as an authentic gear specialist rather than a licensed firearm dealer, giving customers a straightforward and specialized shopping experience.

Beyond the rare and dependable merchandise, the customer service remains a central reason why patrons frequently return whenever they visit the capital region. The staff brings deep product knowledge and a friendly, welcoming attitude to every interaction, whether assisting a seasoned collector seeking historical artifacts or guiding a newcomer through modern protective equipment. For anyone living in Maryland, Virginia, or traveling down through D.C. for work, Full Metal Jacket, LLC in Alexandria, VA delivers an exceptional blend of authentic military history, dependable surplus hardware, and genuine hospitality.

Awesome store and staff, definitely hit this place up multiple times a week when I'm in town for work. I've scored some rad some stuff for good prices. Can't recommend enough! Snagged this Opscore last year.

Marylanders, Absolutely shop here, I had ZERO issues purchasing magazines. If you walk into FMJ or look at their website, it is very clear they are NOT a gun shop. Staff was extremely kind and hooked me up on a surplus surefire as well as an IR device. Friendliest people in the business.

One of the best Military surplus stores in the tri state area. Drove down to DC for work and had to stop by. Was astounded by all of the cool items they had; was glad to see that the selection was all American, ex-military surplus and no Chinese junk like most “tactical” stores sell. I could probably spend the entire day here and a whole paycheck. Tons of patches, gear and camo. Worth the trip for me, will be back to support.

Have been to this store many times over the years since it was first started in Old Town down by the water. I have watched it grow and morph into a first rate store for everything from antique Militaria into a first rate supplier of current …

There are places that sell goods, and there are places that understand purpose. Full Metal Jacket falls squarely in the latter category. Walking in, you don’t get the sense of clutter or confusion—you get order. Clean lines, disciplined presentation, and a staff that appears to grasp the fundamentals: know your equipment, know your customer, and never waste either man’s time. That alone earns respect. The personnel carry themselves with quiet competence. No theatrics, no bravado—just direct answers and a working knowledge of their inventory. In my experience, that’s the difference between amateurs and professionals. These are professionals. Inventory is well-curated. Not excessive, not lacking—balanced. The kind of selection that suggests someone in charge understands logistics: you don’t win by having everything, you win by having the right things, ready when needed. Service is efficient. Questions are answered without evasion. Guidance is offered without condescension. That’s how trust is built—one clear, honest interaction at a time. If there is a weakness, it is the same one found in any operation that values discipline: little tolerance for nonsense. But that is not a flaw—it is a standard. And standards are what separate success from failure. In short: this is a business that understands its mission and executes it without hesitation. In a world full of noise, that kind of clarity is rare—and worth recognizing.
