About
Germany's Best is listed on FindALoco in Oakland, CA with address, phone, website, hours, and map location. Common services and related keywords include Auto Repair Shop.
Germany's Best is an auto repair shop in Oakland, CA, serving drivers from its location at 5291 College Ave, Oakland, CA 94618. For local customers searching for German car repair in the East Bay, the shop is closely associated with BMW and Mercedes-Benz service based on customer experiences, including work involving fuel pumps, oil leaks, diesel particulate filter concerns, and front-end repairs. With a 4.2-star rating from 30 reviews, Germany's Best appears to be a neighborhood option for owners who want an independent shop rather than going straight to a dealer.
The shop is a practical fit for drivers who value direct communication, weekday availability, and experience with complex European vehicles. Reviews mention Paul and the team helping diagnose problems that were not always simple at first glance, such as an oil pan leak that turned into a larger repair need, or a diesel particulate filter issue where a dealer had recommended an expensive replacement. These details make Germany's Best relevant for people comparing auto repair shop options in Oakland, CA, especially when they want a second opinion on BMW or Mercedes-Benz maintenance and repairs.
Customers have described positive experiences with timely turnaround, repairs completed in less time than expected, and costs that felt more reasonable than anticipated in certain cases. One Mercedes-Benz owner noted that after front-end damage and tire issues, the car drove and rode as it had years earlier. Another longtime BMW owner came to the shop after moving to the Bay Area and needing a fuel pump for a 2000 328i. These examples point to a shop that may be especially useful for German vehicle owners dealing with aging-car maintenance, diagnostic questions, and repair decisions where trust and clarity matter.
Like many repair businesses, feedback is not uniform, and at least one customer expressed serious disappointment with repair quality and fees. That makes it important for new customers to ask questions, confirm estimates, and understand the scope of work before approving repairs. Still, the overall profile of Germany's Best suggests a local Oakland, CA repair option for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and other German-car owners who want an independent shop with weekday hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. For residents near College Avenue, Rockridge, and the broader Oakland area, Germany's Best offers a convenient place to discuss repair needs, maintenance concerns, and dealer-alternative service in a straightforward setting.

Sign in to reviewI am extremely disappointed with the work performed on my car. Not only was I charged a parking/storage fee while the vehicle was already in your possession, but the quality of the repairs was completely unacceptable. After receiving the car back, I discovered that several important functions had been disconnected or left non-operational, including the air conditioning, heating system, and windshield wiper water tank. To make matters worse, the original issue I brought the car in for has returned and is now even worse than before. This experience has caused significant frustration, inconvenience, and a complete loss of confidence in the service provided. I absolutely do not recommend this shop to anyone. Based on my experience, the service was unprofessional, careless, and extremely disappointing.
Being new to the Bay Area and a BMW owner since 1981 I recently found myself needing a new fuel pump for my 2000 328i. I have had repairs done by independent shops from San Diego, Austin, Petaluma and Arcata and came to Germany's Best after reading reviews and hoping for the "best" 😁. After dropping in and taking a look around the shop space I made an appointment and got an estimate for the work. It came out higher than expected but I chalked it up to Bay Area Pricing. After dropping the car off I got a call that there was more work to do and it would be over the estimate due to other findings in the fuel system. I gave the OK because I love this car and have no plans to replace it in the near future. In the end they spent extra time finding and repairing two air leaks which they did not bill me for. That work eliminated an annoying cold start idle surge that's been with the car since I bought it and a 4 mpg increase driving on the highway. Needless to say I am happy with the work done and appreciative of their thoroughness in getting my car to run smoothly and efficiently. Update 8/1/25 Last Wednesday I dropped my BMW off to have the interior trunk lights fixed. They had both gone out at once indicating a short or broken wire. I left the car at 9:00 a.m. and was told Paul, the owner, would be in later. A little after 12:00 p.m. Paul called and said the car was ready. I came in to pick up the car around 12:30 and was surprised that for fewer than three hours labor I was charged $680.00. It was great to have the problem taken care of quickly but not at that cost. I understand giving an estimate on that type of work is difficult but I guess I was a little too casual dropping it off when the boss was out.
I have been taking my cars to Paul and Germany's Best for a number of years now. I recently brought my BMW 535 in and what i thought was a minor oil pan leak proved to be a much bigger issue. Not only did Paul and his team solve the problems they were able to get it fixed and back to me in record time. Literally it feels like I am driving a new car not one with 100k and 11 years old. I was kept up every step of the way and I am so pleased with their work. I highly recommend the team at Germany's Best! Thanks Paul!!
Dealers said I needed my Diesel Particulate Filter replaced for > $5000. Everything online said that BMW wants you to replace it when it reaches a particular mileage with no attention to whether it is working or not. (The shop foreman and the dealer actually told me this.) Took it to Germany's Best and they checked it out and said it was performing up-to-spec and there was no need to replace it. Saved me $5000.
Due to MBZ design flaw my front end collapsed with both front tires being lacerated. The repairs took <3 days And were less expensive than I had anticipated. The car now drives and rides as it did 8 yrs ago-when new. I strongly. Recommend Germany’s Best in the highest terms. Go there, you won’t regret it
