I usually come to Gladys’ when I want a budget cut and do not want to pay $150 to $200 to see my regular stylist or travel across the city. Unfortunately, this time I deeply regret not doing either. I have consistently had great experiences with Alvaro and always leave happy when he cuts my hair. He deserves five stars. This review is not about Gladys’ as a whole, but about my experience with a stylist I believe was named Paula. In case that is incorrect, I am referring to the shorter blonde stylist who was perming another client at the time of my appointment. From the start, the appointment felt rushed. She was actively perming another client and decided to squeeze my cut in. I showed her a clear inspiration photo of a butterfly cut with long curtain bangs. Despite this, there was essentially no sectioning beyond pulling two pieces to the front, which is not appropriate for this type of cut. During detangling, she was extremely rough around my ears. I have cartilage piercings and asked her to be mindful so she would not catch or pull on them. She did not apologize or change her approach and instead deflected the comment entirely. When it came to the bangs and face framing, she asked what length I wanted even though it was clearly shown in the reference photo. I indicated where I wanted the shortest point to fall. She continued cutting well beyond that point. When she stopped, the bangs were visibly uneven and chunky. Rather than showing me the bangs properly or correcting the unevenness, she pushed them back off my face. She then attempted to rush through a partial blow dry, stating she needed to return to the perm. I told her that I was not in a rush and offered to let her finish the perm first and come back to my hair afterward so she could take her time. She refused and insisted on finishing my hair immediately. I asked to only see the bangs dry so we could evaluate them before proceeding. She became defensive and insisted she needed to style them first in order to do finishing work. At that point, the unevenness was already obvious while my hair was wet. Instead of addressing it, she attempted to compensate by cutting the already shorter side even more. That is where I lost confidence that the issue could be fixed. Rather than apologizing or asking how I wanted to proceed, she became dismissive and confrontational. She referred to me as “little girl,” which was inappropriate and demeaning. She then told me she would just end the haircut and that I could leave. As I was walking out, she made a comment implying that this is what happens when people do not want to pay for haircuts. This was false and unprofessional. I had no issue paying. The issue was the poor quality of the work and her unwillingness to accept feedback or correct mistakes. I hate leaving negative reviews, but this experience warrants one. A stylist who rushes appointments by double booking and responds defensively or disrespectfully when concerns are raised should not be cutting paying clients’ hair. Here is the inspo pic and my chopped bangs. It’s okay to laugh, I do every time I look at this mess.

I came in to get my hair colored a light brunette and an extra fee to straighten my hair. After drying my hair, I noticed it was 3 different shades. Horrible work. (The woman doing my hair was also coloring her own hair in the salon at the same time. I had to continuously remind her when it was time to wash my hair out. Very unprofessional). I agreed to come back the following week for a color correction. I was told to wash my hair as soon as I got home and to wash several times before coming back. I come the next week and had to get a dark brunette, almost black to cover the 3 colors. She wanted me to pay again for a straightening service after asking me to wash my hair out the week prior. I refused to pay for a service I already paid for and she rudely tried to kick me out.
