Going Places Travel is a travel agency at 1677 Shattuck Ave. in Berkeley, California, serving travelers who want personal guidance for domestic or international plans. Its Berkeley, CA location gives local clients a place to discuss upcoming travel instead of relying only on self-service booking tools. Going Places Travel is well suited to journeys that call for more than a quick online reservation. Customer accounts describe assistance with a 2025 Japan trip, a family journey to New Zealand, a cruise-related issue, and international travel requirements during COVID-19. These examples point to help with itinerary planning, travel changes, ticket questions, and the many details that can affect a complex departure. Since every itinerary has distinct needs, travelers can share their destination, timing, and priorities when asking what type of assistance is available.
Several reviews describe a patient, hands-on service approach. One traveler thanked Krystian for supporting last-minute changes to a Japan itinerary, while another said Tulle worked to resolve problems connected to a cruise. A review of Carolyn Sweeney highlights attentive planning for a family trip and assistance seeking a ticket refund. These are individual customer experiences, not guarantees, but they offer a useful picture of the detailed trip coordination prospective clients may value when working with a travel professional.
For people comparing a travel agency in Berkeley, Going Places Travel may be especially relevant for family vacations, international itineraries, cruises, and plans with several moving parts. The positive feedback suggests an experience that is personal, patient, and detail-conscious, rather than purely transactional. Travelers with multi-city flights, permit or visa-related questions, possible schedule changes, or complicated booking details may benefit from discussing their plans early. It is also sensible to clarify how tickets and connecting flights will be issued and managed before confirming a complex itinerary.
Going Places Travel has a 4.5-star rating from 15 reviews, providing a helpful snapshot of local customer feedback. Reviews include accounts of successful trips and problem-solving, while travel arrangements can also involve airlines, cruise lines, and other providers outside an agency's direct control. For a Berkeley, California traveler seeking weekday support with an upcoming journey, the office at 1677 Shattuck Ave. is a local place to explore options, clarify travel details, and decide whether the agency's approach fits the trip.

Sign in to reviewThank you Krystian for taking care of out 2025 Japan Trip, we had a blast! Thank you for the patience from the time i booked my trip and the last minute changes. I am looking forward working with you on my next trip.
I was referred by a family member and was not disappointed. I had Tulle as my trip specialist and she went to bat for my trip. After a few mess ups on the behalf of the cruise she fixed every single problem. I will definitely be using Going Places Travel again.
We had a critical failure of an itinerary through South Africa and Madagascar put together by Going Places Travel, with no restitution to date. Unbeknownst to us, the travel agent purchased a number of separately issued tickets for our four family members, rather than purchasing them as connected flights. This ultimately caused serious and costly problems. First, when we were forced to change the date of travel due to passport renewal being late for the children (State Dept extremely backed up spring 2023), the separately issued tickets cost us a huge change fee, over $1000, relative to what we would have paid had they been purchased together. Second, when traveling from Cape Town to Antananarivo (TNR), one must make a connection through Johannesburg. The string of tickets allotted only a 1.5 hour layover in Johannesburg, which seemed normal and okay to us since we thought they were purchased as a single ticket and therefore that we would check bags all the way through from Cape Town. However, because they were purchased as separate tickets, and Lift and SA Airlink are separate airlines, we were unable to check our bags through to TNR from Cape Town, and it was physically impossible to make the JNB-TNR flight: despite getting in on time, being among the first to get our bags, and literally running through the airport terminals, the SA Airlink flight was closed to accepting our bags when we arrived at check-in; we now know that 3 hours is the MINIMUM required to make the connection in JNB. Unfortunately, we were forced to stay overnight at the airport in JNB and missed a ONCE WEEKLY connecting domestic flight within Madagascar. A Going Places colleague within the same company who filled in for our travel agent on a separate day expressed disbelief that our agent had ticketed the flights in this way. We initially approved the itinerary, but had no idea that the tickets were strung together as separate tickets. After getting no traction or even empathy from manager Kevin, we filed a claim with the TCRC; unfortunately, the TCRC seems like it is basically there to support travel agencies except in the most egregious of situations, and ended up being a waste of time. Would definitely avoid for Africa, or anything complex.
I recently had to plan a trip under very difficult Covid-19 circumstances. Visa, travel permits, possible cancellations, international travel rules. "Going Places" was the only place I could turn to. Their help was priceless. They in fact got me a place on that airplane. The agent of "Going Places" navigated the system, gave me important information, was very responsive and successfully negotiated my special visa requirements with the airline, where I had failed in person before, and found even a good fare. Stellar!
My experience with Carolyn Sweeney at Going Places has been beyond 5 stars. Her dedication to her clients and expert experience made our family trip to New Zealand effortless for us. Every detail was handled beautifully. Even down to helping us get a refund for my husband's ticket when he could no longer go due to extreme health issues. I could not recommend Going Places and Carolyn more highly.
