Grand Lake Dental

I scheduled an appointment with this dental office specifically for a regular cleaning. When I made the appointment, I was clearly told that no X-ray would be required. Based on that information, I took time off from work to attend. However, once I arrived, the dentist insisted that I must have an X-ray done before receiving any cleaning, even though I had X-rays taken only six months ago. I explained this, but I was given only two options: proceed with the X-ray or leave without any treatment. This is actually the second time this exact situation has occurred, which makes the experience even more frustrating. Because of the repeated insistence on unnecessary X-rays despite recent records, it raises concerns for me that the focus may be more on billing insurance rather than patient care. Due to the lack of transparency and consistency between what was promised during scheduling and what was required at the appointment, I once again left without receiving any cleaning. This resulted in wasted time and inconvenience. I am disappointed with the poor communication and hope the office improves its transparency so patients can make informed decisions before taking time off work.

We just moved to the area and needed a new dentist. I was able to get in for a cleaning fairly quickly (but I think that was just luck because it was near the holidays). Everyone was nice. Dr. Lee did my cleaning and was very thorough. I am very anxious at going to the dentist and I was surprised that they use a bite block for cleaning (it holds the suction so only one person is needed to do the cleaning; and it is supposed to give your jaw a break while holding it open). I have never used this for cleaning and luckily Dr. Lee was kind enough to understand. I will try next time and now that I know I can mentally prepare myself!

After four visits, I am formally done with Grand Lake Dental and strongly advise others to look elsewhere. My decision is driven primarily by their highly questionable policy of refusing to accept recent, pre-paid X-rays from other offices, instead requiring them to be retaken here at an additional charge. This practice feels deliberately scammy and self-serving, forcing patients to incur unnecessary costs and radiation exposure. Beyond this unacceptable billing requirement, the overall experience was consistently poor: • Indifferent Staff: The staff showed a noticeable lack of professionalism, often displaying slight callousness and indifference towards my family and me. • Poor Communication: They were unreliable and bad at responding to emails, making basic coordination difficult. • Paid Parking: The clinic does not validate, requiring patients to pay for parking, which is an added inconvenience. Given the combination of poor service, bad communication, and a required, costly policy that feels like a pure money-grab, I will not be returning.

I had the privilege of being under the care of Dr. Lee at Grand Lake Dental for almost a decade. Dr. Lee has been an exceptional dentist who always provided me with expert advice to maintain my oral health. She is a thorough communicator and always took the time to explain my dental concerns in a way that I could easily understand. Unfortunately, due to a recent move out of Oakland, I had to switch dentists. However, I would highly recommend Dr. Lee and Grand Lake Dental to anyone looking for top-notch care, professionalism, and kindness.

I recently moved and was definitely nervous about finding a new dentist after going to the same one for so long. Grand Lake Dental crew were all so nice and extremely helpful on my first visit! Dr. Lee was awesome and had great answers for all my questions. The front desk has been amazing! They are easy to contact, helpful with scheduling changes, and I LOVE that I always get a reminder email and/or call about my next appointments. I would definitely recommend this dentist to friends.
