Halo Hair Salon is a hair salon at 1439 Federal St in Philadelphia, PA 19146, serving people looking for a haircut, hair-color service, or help refining a style. Customer feedback points to a team with experience in both cutting and color, including work with thick, wavy hair, layered cuts, bangs, and color correction. With a 4.6-star rating from 222 reviews, Halo has attracted many local clients, while individual experiences can differ. If you are comparing Philadelphia hair salons, the reviews offer useful examples of the services people have sought and the results they valued.
Color appointments are one reason clients recommend Halo. Reviewers describe working with Kara on color, including a visit that began with inspiration photos and a copper, brassy result the client wanted to improve. The reviewer praised Kara’s ability to understand the desired direction and create a more suitable color. Bringing reference photos and explaining what you like about them can help guide a conversation about tone and expectations. If you have a specific color goal, ask what is realistic for your starting color and how the stylist plans to approach it before the service begins.
Clients also mention cuts and corrective work. One first-time visitor said Sam helped reshape a cut from another salon and blend choppy layers; another regular praised Sam’s precise, efficient cuts for thick, wavy hair. These accounts make Halo a possible fit for people seeking a carefully shaped cut, a refresh to existing layers, or a stylist who can discuss the texture and behavior of their hair. Reviews also include disappointing outcomes involving a cut that ended shorter than requested and bangs that were heavier than expected. For a substantial change, be specific about the finished length, show reference images, and confirm the plan during the consultation. Clear communication matters, and it is reasonable to check in before a stylist removes more length or weight.
Halo Hair Salon is located on Federal Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Its posted schedule is Monday and Tuesday 11 a.m.–7 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; and Sunday noon–6 p.m. Hours can change, so confirm before visiting, especially when planning around a particular stylist or service. Whether you are looking for color with Kara, a cut with Sam, or simply exploring a neighborhood hair salon, use your consultation to describe your preferences, past experiences, and any concerns. The reviews offer both positive examples and reminders to make expectations explicit, helping you decide whether Halo is the right salon for your next appointment.

Book Kara for your color!!! It was my second time having my hair colored by Kara, and she is an absolute magician and expert colorist. I came in with about 20 different photos of inspiration, and within seconds she knew what I was looking for. She turned my copper, brassy mess of a color into a beautiful, natural, lived-in blonde. She seriously makes it look like my hair sprouts out of my head this pretty. Thank you again, Kara!
This was my first time at Halo, & I came in to get a cut I had gotten at a different salon corrected. I had Sam do my hair, & she did an amazing job. She was able to correct the shape (the stylist at the other salon cut it weird) & blend in the choppy layers the first stylist did at the other salon. And without losing much length, which is what I had hoped for. The blowout was great, & I got a lot of compliments on my hair the next day at work. I would definitely come again.
I relocated less than a year ago and had my hair cut here a few times. Unfortunately, my last experience was quite disappointing. Despite providing photos of my desired cut, and a request for chin length cut, the stylist cut it too short. When asked if I liked it, I mentioned it resembled Lord Farquaad from Shrek. In an attempt to salvage it, she curled my hair. I emailed the shop the next day, explaining the issues – 2 inches too short and resembling a bowl cut. The stylist offered to fix it, but after hours of emails, I realized it couldn't be rectified as it wasn't the cut I asked for. While the shop's policy is no refunds, paying $80 for a cut that requires time travel to fix seems unreasonable. At first the owner was going to refund me but after being silent for 48 hours, she changed her mind and told me these things happen. Pictures of the requested cut are seen in an orange tank and black dress. The resulting cut includes 3 pics in a red and blue shirt. UPDATE: I haven’t had a haircut in 5 months and it is just now the length I requested. 1 bad hair cut has impacted me for 5 months.
I don’t think the hairstylist I got was that good. I asked for wispy bangs see-through bangs and she gave me really thick china doll bangs. I think she took way too much from my hair and used that for bangs, which created a more thicker …
Sam is a wizard. She cuts my thick, wavy hair perfectly every time. She's precise and efficient and makes it look effortless :)
