The pricing remains competitive compared to other salons in the San Jose area, which is part of what keeps customers coming back season after season.

It is worth noting that experiences can vary depending on hair type and individual expectations. Some reviewers have found the salon particularly well-suited for certain hair textures, while others with different needs may want to communicate their preferences clearly before the cut begins. As with any service business, open communication about what you are looking for — whether it is a specific cut style, the tools you prefer, or the amount of time you hope to spend — can make all the difference in achieving the outcome you want. The staff at HK Hair & Beauty generally responds well to customers who know what they want.

Overall, HK Hair & Beauty in San Jose is a solid, affordable option for residents who appreciate skilled styling, friendly service, and a neighborhood feel. Whether you are a long-time local or new to the area and searching for a dependable hair salon that respects your time and your wallet, this Lundy Avenue gem is well worth a visit. Not good at all for Indian hair.!!! I have wavy hair in the bottom and straight on top. I asked for layers cut and the old lady chopped them off using hair thinners. I asked her not to use the razors on my hair as it causes a lot of hair fall for me, to which she screamed at me and explained to me that these are not razors.. and then continued using it. Including the picture below .. these are professional hair thinning razors !

I don't write many reviews, but since my experience was distinctly more positive than some of the negative reviews I found while I was searching (blindly) for a convenient & reasonably priced haircut. Note, everyone seemed to speak Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin) and understanding what little I do, I'm confident they weren't gossiping about me or anyone else. Google requested additional specifics, so since I already typed it, I've also shared the same detail here in my review: Stylist (and specific feedback on him): - Michael followed my requests exactly and spent time examining the cut directly and from the mirror reflection at multiple times during the process; I didn't need to ask him to touch up anything. He also styled my hair with small amounts of spray (not a lot of hair product), so I could walk out ready to go for rest of the day) Requested cut: - fade straight up (guard size 1), with no flare outwards - trim top and refresh comb-over line, without bringing line too high - fade around the ears and back of neck (with zero guard), rather than distinct shaping round/squared Hair type: - straight medium coarse asian hair

Been going to May here consistently for over 5 years — i’ve also gotten my hair cut at other places when i was moving around, but HK was by far the best. Service is amazing and for a great price, and my hair always looks and feels the best afterwards. I usually get layers cut and May does an amazing job — the layers are super neat and grow out beautifully and healthily.

I went for a hair cut. She was so fast. She just wanted me to move out. They charged $14 ( plus $2 tip I gave). Did not like that too fast cutting. They should treat each customer properly by giving them proper time. Their price is pretty much with the other salons but service is not at par at all.
