Import Auto Specialists

In October 2025, I brought my Mercedes to IAS for an exhaust manifold replacement. When I picked it up, I found one of their tools still in mu engine compartment which should have been a sign. Everything was fine until I went to get my tires changed in March 2026. Three of my wheels came off with no issue but the one wheel that IAS had to take off to replace the exhaust manifold was severely over torqued. When I called to ask about this, they told me they didn't even have record of having my exhaust manifold replaced– they told me the only had a record of having my turbo replaced (which was never done). They also told me that the wheel was torqued to manufacture specification, however, no other shop or person worked on my car after IAS. I'm conflicted because it seems like they are capable of quality work but forget or slip up on the basics.

Good service and advice for a reasonable price. Checked around for quotes and they were the best. Took a chance and brought my Maserati in for an oil change. Glad I found them!

On June 30, 2025, I had an emergency for my 2005 BMW 525i. The coolant was pouring out. I contacted Import Auto Specialists because they serviced my Mercedes before. The second day they provided me a diagnosis and recommended a few repairs. The first repair was to replace the water pump - kind of obvious because the coolant was pouring at the bottom. They also recommended to replace the 3 radiator hoses for $1,055.91, the cylinder head (plug) and engine oil filter gasket housing for $762.83. That was too much a cost to repair this old car so I asked them to just to replace the water bump. I knew the car have had some slow leak of coolant for a long time, so I asked them to confirm that the June 30, 2025 emergency was due to the busted water pump. The person kept evading to answer that question directly. He kept saying all were contributing to the emergency. I know when something major breaks, it would be so rare to have two parts break at the same time. Statistics doesn't support that. I told them I could sign the diagnosis and release any liability they might have for just replacing the water bump. They declined to do that. Finally I said enough was enough and I towed my car to another German car place. The new place pretty much diagnosed the same issues and asked me to sign the diagnosis so it would be my decision not to address the other issues. My car was running good again after the second place only replaced the water pump. I am extremely unhappy with the practice at the Import Auto Specialists. It was like to scare the customer to address more issues than absolutely necessary. I told them my goal was to get this car going again. I didn't want to fix all the issues to make it perfect. I am disappointed that they didn't consider the extra HIGH costs associated with addressing the other issues. Confirmed by the second mechanic, the emergency was caused by the failure of the water pump PERIOD.

I needed an oil change and the place where I bought my car recommend Import Auto Specialists. It was my first time there and I have to say that it was a great experience! Super easy to get to and everyone is so nice and professional. This is now going to be my go to place for any future mechanical issues!
