Import Connection is an auto repair shop at 5320 Monroe Rd in Charlotte, NC, serving drivers who want a local place to have their vehicles checked and repaired. Customer reviews describe visits involving Volkswagen, Audi, and Volvo vehicles, including older cars showing signs of wear. For Charlotte-area owners of import cars, those experiences offer a useful starting point when considering a nearby repair shop.
Reviews highlight knowledgeable, approachable service as a reason some customers return. One Volkswagen Golf owner said a couple of visits helped restore the car’s smooth, efficient feel as it approached ten years old. Audi owners also describe bringing their vehicles here over several years, including an A6, A7, and Q5. These are individual customer experiences, not a promise of a particular result, but they give prospective customers a sense of the kinds of vehicles people have brought to Import Connection.
Customer feedback on value is mixed, so it is worth discussing the work and expected cost before authorizing a repair. Some reviewers say the shop’s prices felt fair and appreciated not being pushed toward extra work; another customer felt a basic transmission service cost substantially more than competing options. Experiences with scheduling and repairs also vary. Asking about appointment availability, the proposed work, and pricing in advance can help you decide whether the shop fits your needs.
The setting is a neighborhood repair business on Monroe Road, with weekday hours for drivers planning a drop-off or visit. Import Connection is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and closed Saturday and Sunday. Its listed rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 63 reviews. That overall score sits alongside both strong recommendations and critical accounts, making it useful to read recent feedback and consider what matters most for your particular vehicle and repair.
Import Connection may be worth considering if you live or work near Monroe Road and are looking for a Charlotte auto repair shop with customer-reported experience on Volkswagen and Audi vehicles. It may suit drivers who value a direct conversation with the mechanic and want to understand what a repair involves before proceeding. Clear expectations about timing, diagnosis, and cost can make it easier to choose the right local repair option.

I had my VW checked and repaired just recently. Approaching the 10 year mark my golf has started to have some signs of aging but a couple of visits to Import Connections have returned it to its efficient, smooth self. Highly recommend, the owner is very knowledgeable, approachable and prices are fair and transparent from the get go.
I’ve been a customer at Import Connection on Monroe Rd for over seven years, and I trust them with both of my Audis — a 2013 A6 and a 2016 A7. I’ve seen the negative reviews, but honestly, the good experiences far outweigh the bad. There’s only one main mechanic, but that man works like a machine. I’ve watched him show up injured just to make sure customers’ cars get taken care of. Don at the front desk is always upfront, honest, and fair with pricing. I’ve never had an issue with the work they’ve done, and they’ve always treated me right. This is the only shop I let touch my cars.
My go to repair shop for my Audi Q5. They are knowledgeable and reliable and don’t gouge you with high prices and extra work. Highly recommend!
Don & crew seem like nice folks, and I like to support local businesses when I can. Was really hoping that we'd be regulars as we live nearby and drive import cars, but in my experience we're paying around 2x the cost of competing mechanics for basic trans service (even dealers). So I wish you the best, and maybe your experience is worth it, but we plan to move on to someone more affordable. Your mileage may vary.
If I could take stars away from a business, I would in this case. My experience was the worst I've ever had with an auto repair shop. I contacted them on 7/2 to make an appointment for repairs on my 2007 Volvo S80 and was told that the first available appointment wasn't until 7/16. I didn't have a problem with that and dutifully dropped the car of on 7/15 after hours. When I stopped by late on 7/16 to see what they had found (check engine light was on and was leaking coolant) I was told they wouldn't be able to get to it for 2-3 days. I finally heard back from them late on 7/19. The coolant fix was going to be +/-$800 and they recommended clearing the check engine codes to see what was the "real" code(s). Given the age and mileage of the car I said I'd like to think about it over the weekend. I talked to Don on 7/22 and told him to clear the codes but don't repair the leak yet because I wanted see what else was going on before putting $800 into it. He agreed and I said I'd stop by the next day to pick it up. When I went to pick up the car on 7/23 it took 45+ minutes to bring it out. When they finally told me it was ready it was parked in front and turned off. Upon trying to start it up the battery (which was less than a year old) was dead. After jumping it a warning came on saying that there was "poor engine performance" and it ran VERY rough. (Surely they would have noticed this when moving it out of the garage.) I left the car with them and told them to figure it out. Another week passed and I didn't hear from them so I followed up on 7/30 and was told that the battery wouldn't hold a charge, was shot and that I needed a new battery. The cost for them to replace the battery and do unspecified "diagnostics"was $500+. I rejected their recommendations and decided to pick it up or have it towed elsewhere. When I went in to get the key they said that they would install a new battery for free "as a courtesy" if I brought them one. $150 and 30 minutes later I dropped off the new battery. Finally, on 8/13 (2 weeks after I dropped off the battery) and having heard nothing from them I stopped by and asked how long it takes to install a battery (O'Reilly's can do it in 10 minutes in the parking lot). Don nervously said that they should be able to get it in that afternoon and I was finally able to pick up my car. It took 6 weeks from making an appointment and 4 weeks in the shop plus $150 in diagnostic fees (for checking the engine codes) and another $150 to replace a battery that was fine when I dropped the car off. Needless to say, I won't be going back.
