With a 4.8-star rating drawn from 145 reviews, the office has earned feedback centered on clear communication, professionalism, and a welcoming experience. For patients comparing dentists in Berkeley, the reviews offer a consistent picture of a team that takes time to help people understand their care. Its review profile gives prospective patients useful, experience-based context without replacing a direct conversation about treatment. It is also a useful point of reference for nearby residents.

Patients specifically describe Dr. Chan as patient and thorough when explaining procedures, an approach that can make appointments feel less uncertain for people who prefer to know what is happening and why. Reviewers also point to thorough, painless cleanings and a recent mouth guard fitting that helped address teeth grinding. These comments reflect services and experiences mentioned by patients rather than a full list of treatments, so prospective patients can contact the office directly to discuss their individual dental needs. A calm, explanatory approach is a recurring theme in feedback. For those who have felt rushed at a dental visit before, that detail can be especially meaningful.

The practice is noted for a warm office environment where Dr. Chan, dental assistant Melissa, and office staff are described as kind and professional. Several reviewers appreciate that care did not feel focused on pushing products or procedures they considered unnecessary. That perspective may resonate with people looking for a regular dentist who communicates choices plainly. Whether visiting for a cleaning, a mouth guard concern, or another dental appointment, reviews characterize the office experience as attentive and respectful. The comments repeatedly describe attention to questions and explanations throughout the visit.

Janice K. Chan, DDS is open Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and is closed Monday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Telegraph Avenue location places the office in Berkeley, California, for patients who value a neighborhood dental practice with weekday availability. Before scheduling, it is wise to confirm appointment availability, the appropriate service, insurance or payment questions, and any office policies directly with the practice. Calling ahead also lets patients clarify how the office can accommodate the purpose and timing of their visit. This can be particularly helpful when planning care around work, school, or other weekday responsibilities. The patient feedback highlights a considerate team and detailed explanations as two reasons local patients choose this Berkeley dentist.

This is a great dental practice. The DA Melissa and Dr. Chan were both so explanative and kind. Unlike other practices I’ve visited, they don’t try to push a bunch of products and unnecessary procedures on you.

I highly recommend Dr. Chan. She and her office staff are very professional. Her cleanings are very thorough and painless. She fit me for a new mouth guard recently which has helped with the grinding of my teeth. Her office is conveniently located in Berkeley (near Alta Bates) and parking is not an issue. A friend from UCSF (a nurse) recommended Dr. Chan to me and I am most appreciative that she did!

Dr. Chan charged me 75 dollars for a 24 hour heads up in a cancelation that was due to my beloved cat having a stroke and needing to meet with a specialist at the same time as my appointment the next day. This medical emergency happening to my cat has been one of the most upsetting and expensive things that has ever happened in my life and even after I begged to just simply reschedule to one day later I was still charged the fee (but had I lied the day of and sent a picture of a positive covid test I would have not been charged so my kindness in giving a heads up worked against me). Absolutely heartless business. Dr Chan clearly cares more about $75 dollars than a customer who has been coming to her office for years now. I’ll never return. This is moreso a review of the people who work here as human beings. I give them 1 star for being so cruel and heartless. I realize this doesn’t reflect on the ability of the heartless doctor to do dentistry, but if anyone else reading this has ever gone through something very upsetting, just know that this office is full of people who are more than happy to add insult to injury when humanity could be shown instead.
