Joyful Dim Sum Bistro

The prices are inexpensive. For example, porridge for $7 vs other places for $15. It isn’t crowded and the service was fast. I like how they gave me a huge pitcher of hot water and cold water. My other go to is Kung Fu Dim Sum but it’s getting so crowded there so this is a good alternative. The porridge at Joyful is better than Kung Fu. But I like the hot chili oil at Kung Fu better. The sticky rice is good at both places.

We hadn't had dim sum in a long time, so after a car meet, we were really craving it and found this place near Ohlone College. We ordered some of our usual dim sum favorites, including shiu mai, har gow, chicken feet, steamed pork ribs in black bean sauce, and the shrimp spring rolls. Everything tasted really good, and the portions were generous! Even though they don't have a huge selection, they do have most of the classic dim sum dishes I like, so I had no complaints. The flavors were spot on, even without soy sauce, and I didn't feel thirsty after the meal at all, which is already a good sign. I was a bit disappointed with the har gow wrapper because it was a bit too floury. The shrimp spring rolls were fried so much that the shape completely changed, and I couldn't recognize them at first. Overall, we paid around $38ish for two people, which was a really good value for the portion sizes. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I noticed that a lot of people were ordering takeout as well. Highly recommended!

Slightly above average quality, really good value casual dim sim place. Satisfies the dim sum craving and would go again if in the area, but would go out of my way just to eat there again Walked in around noon on a Saturday and waited about 20 minutes for a party of 2. They are really busy on weekends. I actually made a reservation on their website days prior, but they did not honor it, saying they are walk ins only for parties less than 6. They have a paper wait list sheet They have a small menu that you write on to order. Food came out quickly. We ordered the shrimp rice noodle roll $7, siu mai $6, chicken feet $6, sticky rice in lotus leaf $6, Xiao long bao $8. Food comes out very fresh and everything tasted as expected. The only item I would not recommend would be the xiao long baos if you are picky about them. The skin is thick, but the filling is fine. Portions are very reasonable Staff are all very nice and speak both English and Chinese. Small/medium sized restaurant. There's a lot of public picnic tables outside the restaurant that you can order to go and eat at if the wait is too long. No issues with parking. Small shared parking lot and street parking. FYI, they have a sister restaurant in the same plaza that serves the more typical Chinese food, make sure you go to the right restaurant

Interesting restaurant in a neighborhood close to Mission San Jose. Space is bright and clean, with not too many tables. Serves good Dim Sum. Didn't see any Asian customers besides our table. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was good and well worth the price. Will go back and try other Dim Sum offerings

I'll be real, we were excited to try this place but it is not joyful at all. By that, I mean the service. It was 100% like she didn't want us to be there. Like our server was extremely short with us and essentially ignored us. When we don't get a single smile until you collect the bill, it kind of sends a message. Shame cause the food was good. The Xiao long back is good. The shumai is on the porkier side. Everything else was fine. The turnip cakes are bland. Maybe the service soured the experience. It's nice that they give you hot water to make tea to eat the dim sum. The bathroom and table were clear enough.
