Haircuts come at rates that are noticeably lower than many national chains, which has made it a practical go-to for budget-conscious residents in San Diego. Nail services, including full sets with gel polish, are also competitively priced—some reviewers have noted paying around $32 for a full almond-shaped set with gel polish. For those who want to keep up with their beauty routine without stretching their budget, this salon along El Cajon Boulevard offers a genuinely affordable alternative.
The staff at Kathy's Hair & Nails has earned warm feedback from certain customers for being helpful and attentive. One reviewer shared how a team member named Rose welcomed her before official opening hours and carefully worked on her very short, bitten nails with patience and professionalism. This kind of personal, accommodating approach is what keeps some neighborhood regulars coming back. The salon operates Monday through Saturday from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM, and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, giving visitors flexibility for appointments throughout the week.
It is worth noting that, like many independent neighborhood salons, experiences at Kathy's Hair & Nails can vary. Some visitors have shared concerns about cleanliness standards and the pace of service during busy periods. If you are planning a visit, communicating your expectations clearly before the service begins can help ensure a smoother experience. The salon sits on a bustling stretch of El Cajon Boulevard, which contributes to its lively, high-traffic atmosphere—something that can be both convenient and occasionally hectic.
Overall, Kathy's Hair & Nails may be a solid fit for San Diego residents who prioritize affordable haircuts and nail services in a convenient, walk-in-friendly setting. It is a place where some customers have found real value and friendly staff, particularly when working one-on-one with attentive team members. Sign in to reviewrose was so helpful and kind and professional, i showed up before they opened and she still let me in and did my nails. i paid 32$ for a full almond set w gel polish. she was extremely attentive and was gracious about my very short bitten nails
Clean straightforward haircut for affordable price (and a fraction of what I’ve typically paid at Great Clips). Glad to support this local business moving forward.
Unfortunately this was a really bad experience. They used unclean and old towels and I purchased the more expensive service for the spa pedicure . There was a lady who started in a bucket and they did the service so slowly with her and and sped through my mothers design . I was trying to explain what my mother needed and she pushed me out of the way . They are incredibly disrespectful , unwilling to listen and of course I will not be returning.
1st time I came in from cashing a huge check and I was excited to get my nails done . The place was convenient. When I came in the ladies there ignored me. I looked pass it bc I figured they didn't feel like working idk. When I told them I wanted s full set they were snappy with me and kept demanding I pay up front. I told them I didn't even know my design. Long story short they tried to rush me to pay before I sat down and the other clients watched and noticed their demeanor and shook their heads
Bad attendance! Bad polish nail! Bad place so dirty! She pulled, she literally pulled my acrylic nail out with her own nails! It hurts so bad! She made me paid $29 for a gel nail! THE WORST PLACE EVER !!!!
