A loved one who lives in Boston and knows how much I love chocolate sent me a gift box from L.A Burdick. It was my first introduction to the chocolatier and it was love at first bite! I was impressed with the quality. The variety of chocolate was so good and very rich and smooth and each piece looked like a work of art! The packing was also pretty. I loved the classy details like the ribbon, the card, the seal and the wooden box filled with two layers of the best chocolate! And the cute little chocolate mice in the box made me smile. I saved them. They’re too cute to eat! It was a well made gift and such an honor to receive it!
This is a good place for hot coco for sure! There is a lot of high quality chocolates to buy in a box. Perfect for souvenirs. I bought the Burdick which is dark chocolate with a hint of rum. It was the sweetest thing I’ve ever put in my mouth. There wasn’t any more seats for me though.
Tried their hot chocolate. It was really tasty, rich and creamy. It was around $8. They have great variety of chocolates. Ambiance is very nice and staff were helpful. Will definitely go back to try their cakes/desserts and chocolates.
This beautiful shop is located in the magnificent Back Bay neighborhood, right between Boylston and Newbury Street, which already makes it a great stop while exploring the area. L.A. Burdick is a great place to enjoy high-quality chocolate with a distinct European influence, rooted in Swiss traditions and adapted to a New England setting. They offer a wide selection of handcrafted chocolate bars, pastries, drinks, and small chocolate figures. The chocolate bars are very good, with fair pricing considering the quality. There are unique blends, including regional varieties such as Venezuelan and Bolivian chocolate, along with options ranging from white to dark and combinations with hazelnut or almond. They also have a ‘healthy’ bars section with chocolate and a mix of various nuts and seeds. The chocolate figures are especially charming and come in decorative boxes. They make great gifts, although the packaging can make them feel more expensive if you are mainly looking for chocolate. The pastries are worth trying. We recommend the layered cake, which has a good balance in portion and flavor, making it a satisfying dessert without being too heavy. Drinks are one of the highlights. The drinking chocolate is rich yet balanced, and we recommend trying the mocha with spicy or dark chocolate for a different flavor profile. The spice is noticeable without being overwhelming. They also serve coffee, even if that is not always highlighted in other reviews. You can also purchase chocolate powders to prepare drinks at home, and some sets include small whisks for a more traditional preparation. There are many gift options available, and they offer gift wrapping at no extra cost. There is seating and clean restrooms available inside, and the space is family friendly. Staff are very friendly and helpful. This is not the best place to work remotely or use as a coffee office, but it is definitely worth visiting for a focused and memorable chocolate experience with Boston style!!
Visited this location in May 2026. Got this spot suggested by the trolley tour guide when getting off at stop 13. I’m so glad we took Gonzo’s advice to stop in. Chocolate options depending on origin country, sipping chocolate and more. Their display of chocolate mice pointed to actually available mice chocolate shapes for sale. Their chocolate beehive was real (not for sale, but quite the construction feat). Service was great. I did not get the name of the lady working the register but she took our order and checked in when we received it to make sure we got exactly what we needed. Their spicy sipping chocolate is the bomb. Great flavor, good temperature when served and good heat levels for spicy chocolate. We grabbed a bag to take home for ourselves for later enjoyment. Place can get loud, limited seating and long lines but it is very much worth a stop here. Will absolutely visit again when in the area again.
