For something beyond a traditional coffee, the matcha latte and hojicha latte are popular choices, with guests highlighting the matcha’s depth and balanced sweetness. Some reviewers find the pricing higher than at a casual coffee counter, though they feel the quality can justify it depending on the order. Feedback also varies: while many guests appreciate the drinks and atmosphere, some mention slower service or inconsistent drink quality. One of the best coffee experiences we had in Boston. Excellent coffee, precise preparation, and a distinctive Japanese touch that makes Ogawa stand out from other specialty coffee shops. Great quality, great atmosphere, and definitely a place I would visit again. Highly recommended. ☕️🇯🇵
It’s definitely on the pricey side but their quality can justify the price depending on what you order. Regardless, between their phenomenal hot matcha with just the right amount of depth and sweetness to their desserts when they have them; I would highly recommend taking the time to at least check them out. They also have the best work and conversation environment. I especially love their seating in the back when I want to get work done. The staff are so sweet and always super well dressed, and it really is a great spot.
The Matcha latte and hojicha latte were very good. We were so disappointed that they didn’t serve their dessert when we visited around 3. (they no longer serve their dessert?) It took a long time to have our drinks served. Ogawa coffee needs to reevaluate their business model. Do they want to provide Japanese quality service and the high quality drinks and food? Then they need to train their staff and pay them more or something. It appeared that they would need more staff to do the various tasks.
Met up our friends here in the morning to grab coffee/matcha before starting the freedom trail and sightseeing in Boston. Cute little Kyoto inspired cafe with huge windows and places to sit inside. It was a hot summer day so didn’t opt for any hot drinks to get any cute latte art but we just got iced coffees, hojicha, and matcha lattes. It was good and refreshing to start the day, it was busy and service was great. Hard to find parking in this area as it’s busy but there is some street parking if you’re lucky. It took about 15 minutes to get our drinks.
I’ve been here many times and used to really enjoy the hojicha latte. Unfortunately, the quality seems to have gone down quite a bit recently. When I went today, the person making my drink was chatting with a customer while preparing it, and the tea seemed to come from a pre-made bottle instead of being properly prepared. The texture used to be smooth, but today it tasted quite rough and inconsistent. It’s honestly hard to believe this is a over $10 drink. It feels very overpriced for the quality. I really hope Boston gets more places that serve properly made hojicha drinks, because I used to really like coming here. I know the place is very popular, so maybe the change is to accommodate more customers, but the quality difference is still noticeable.
