Ones Cafe & Bakery

We visited Ones Cafe and Bakery on a Saturday around midday to try some of their popular pastries, and everything in the display looked straight out of a Paris bakery. The selection is super unique and beautifully made. The croissants were incredibly flaky and tasted extremely fresh. My boyfriend got the fresh tart (kind of similar to an egg tart), and I got the cinnamon monkey bread. They heated everything up for us, and we shared the salted egg cream latte — absolutely phenomenal. As Asians would say: not too sweet, perfect texture, and very balanced. We actually loved it so much that we brought a friend back the very next morning. This time we ordered more fresh tarts and tried the orange pineapple kouign-amann, which ended up being my favorite pastry overall. The tarts tasted even better earlier in the morning, probably because they were extra fresh right out of the oven. For drinks, we got the salted cream latte again and also tried the ube latte. We added espresso to the ube drink since it normally doesn’t come with coffee. It still tasted a little mild for our preference, so next time we’d probably try a different specialty drink instead. Overall, this place completely lived up to the hype for us. Amazing pastries, thoughtful flavors, and such a cozy weekend treat spot. We honestly can’t wait to come back again (probably every weekend at this rate).

I am so excited I found this place. Thank you to the parent on the Castro Valley Facebook group. Bets pregnancy treat for Mother’s Day. Despite the amount of people coming in, the staff was friendly and super efficient. I brought these home as it’s cold and no indoor seating. Wonderful quality!

This place specializes in croissants and I ordered 8 different ones with an even split with savory and sweet to take home to my family and we were all able to try a bite of everything. I wish I wrote down what I ordered but luckily, I did take a picture. I ordered: Ham and Cheese, Almond, French Custard, Black Sesame, Passion Fruit Ganache, Cheese and Mushroom, Shrimp, and lastly, a kouign-amann. They also had a pastrami one that I wanted to try but they were sold out. Everything was delicious and buttery, as a croissant should be. Nothing was too sweet nor too salty however, I would recommend pairing it with either a nice cup of coffee or tea. My favorite so far was the cheese and mushroom and the kuign-amann but honestly, you cant go wrong with anything. Price wise, they were around $7 each which, for the quality you are getting, I believe is fairly priced. The staff were all very lively and super friendly. Also, the smell of freshly made croissants is absolutely intoxicating. I will definitely return to try the other items as well as their coffee.

My husband went to pick up some pastries for me, so I couldn't speak for the service/atmosphere. This review is mainly for the food quality. He ordered a few items - French tart, Ube moon, and spicy lemongrass chicken. The french tart looks obviously undercooked, the dough is just a blop instead of layered and crispy like their other pastries. Is it supposed to be like that? Either way, not a fan. I like the taste of the spicy lemongrass chicken, but the pastry is a bit undercooked inside and drenched with the chicken oil/juice/sauce whatever. The first few bites are okay, then once I get to those damped part, I just had to spit it out... Ube moon is fine, maybe they pipet the filling in so the pastry isn't drenched. I'd probably come back and try other plain croissants, but the tarts/meat inside pastries is a no-no 😐

This place is great. Killer pastries and great coffee. Kind staff and a cool look to it. Easy stop and pop spot on the way to the bay. Would definitely return.
