PHIN COFFEE HOUSE - at David Rubenstein Treehouse at Harvard University is a coffee shop at 20 Western Ave in Boston, Massachusetts, located at the David Rubenstein Treehouse at Harvard University. It offers a convenient stop for coffee, a light meal, or a place to pause during the day. The setting is described by customers as clean, open, and spacious, with large windows. Its location and roomy interior are part of the appeal for people visiting the Harvard area, including students, staff, neighbors, and anyone looking for a relaxed coffee break. The business has a 4.6-star rating from 34 reviews, giving visitors a useful snapshot of local customer experiences while leaving room for their own preferences about drinks and value.
Coffee choices mentioned by customers include pour-over coffee, decaf coconut coffee, coconut coffee, and citrus espresso. The coconut coffee is a standout in several reviews: one customer praises its creamy texture and balance of bittersweet flavors, while another recommends the decaf version alongside a pour-over. Citrus espresso is described as refreshing, making it an option for someone seeking a brighter, less conventional coffee drink. Customers also mention matcha, including an iced golden matcha latte with turmeric. Feedback on matcha is mixed: one reviewer found the drink smooth and enjoyed its turmeric flavor, but wanted the matcha taste to come through more clearly. As with any specialty drink, individual tastes and expectations can differ, so these reviews offer helpful context rather than a guarantee of a particular flavor experience.
For a quick bite, the menu includes banh mi and sandwiches, according to customer reviews. One visitor describes the banh mi as crispy and tasty, while another found the sandwiches a good size and appreciated the fresh ingredients. These comments make the shop a practical choice for pairing a drink with a casual lunch or snack. Feedback on the coffee is not uniform: some guests are enthusiastic about particular drinks and the quality, while one reviewer felt a pour-over did not taste as complex as expected for its price. That range of opinions is useful for deciding what to try; returning customers familiar with other PHIN locations have also praised this newer, more spacious setting.
The open interior and big windows can make PHIN COFFEE HOUSE a pleasant place to sit and enjoy a drink or spend time between activities. One reviewer liked the location and space for getting work done, but noted there is no public Wi-Fi and no power outlets, so it may not suit visitors who need a connected workspace or a place to charge a laptop. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; it is closed Sunday. For visitors searching for a coffee shop in Boston near Harvard University, this location offers specialty coffee, customer-mentioned banh mi and sandwiches, and a bright, spacious setting, with practical details worth considering before settling in.

We had a pour over and decaf coconut coffee! both were delicious. Sandwiches were fine, good size, fresh products. They don’t have public wifi nor power outlets if you’re considering working here. It’s a clean, open space with big windows. Would come back.
The space and location are fantastic to get some work done. The coffee, however, was mildly disappointing to me - I expected it to taste way more complex given the price point. Definitely give it a try though!
SO GOOD i recommend their coconut coffee - so creamy and perfect balance of bittersweet. also their citrus espresso is super refreshing!!! banh mi is perfectly crispy and yummy
Exceptional as Always! I've been a big fan of Phin's downtown, and this new location does not disappoint. It is much more spacious, but it still serves up the same incredible quality. …
Heard good things about the matcha here, but the Iced Golden Matcha Latte ($7.50) that I tried was just okay. The drink was smooth, but I could only taste the turmeric and milk—not the matcha (though, I did like the turmeric taste). Maybe the matcha is stronger in the other ones.
