For local residents, visitors, and anyone searching for a Russian market in Los Angeles, this shop stands out for its combination of everyday groceries, prepared foods, baked sweets, and hard-to-find imported items. With a 4.1 rating from 274 reviews, it is clearly a place many customers return to, especially when they want familiar flavors and products that are not commonly found in standard supermarkets.
What many people mention first about Shalom Produce is the food selection. Customer reviews highlight favorites like chebureki, along with a dessert case that draws regular praise for sour cream cake, honey cake, and other sweets. Shoppers also note that the store carries specialty products you may not spot in larger chain grocery stores, making it a useful stop for people cooking traditional meals or browsing for something specific. If you are looking for a Russian grocery store in Los Angeles, California with both pantry staples and ready-to-enjoy treats, this market offers a selection that feels practical as well as distinctive.
The atmosphere appears to be part of the appeal. Reviews suggest that the shop expanded from a smaller, more crowded setup, giving customers a more comfortable experience than in the past. That makes Shalom Produce a good fit for quick grocery runs, picking up dessert for home, or stopping in when you want prepared foods without making a full restaurant visit. Its location at 7222 Sunset Blvd also makes it accessible for people in and around central Los Angeles, whether they are neighborhood regulars or passing through the area.
At the same time, customer feedback is mixed in a few important ways, and that context matters. Some reviewers praise freshness and call it a favorite store, while others express concerns about pricing, card minimums, or the freshness of certain items. For shoppers, the most practical approach is to browse carefully, check labels or dates when relevant, and confirm prices if you are ordering prepared foods by weight. That kind of transparency helps set expectations and can make the visit smoother.
Overall, Shalom Produce remains a notable Russian grocery store in Los Angeles, CA for shoppers seeking cakes, savory specialties, and imported grocery items in one stop. It may be especially appealing for people who already know the foods they want, families shopping for familiar ingredients, or dessert lovers curious about Eastern European-style cakes. Open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and closed on weekends, Shalom Produce offers a weekday option for specialty grocery shopping in Los Angeles with a selection that many locals continue to appreciate.

Sign in to reviewPrices are extremely unreasonable.. it’s a grocery store, not a restaurant in Beverly Hills.. I bought potato’s with pieces of ribs and was surprised to be charged $29.90 for a plate that is mostly potato’s and some bones with small pieces of meat on them.. I noticed that the price tag was for a meat salad.. asked if there was maybe a mistake but the sales person confirmed that’s the price and just provided a new tag under “misc” category.. checked the receipt when I got home and also noticed that I was charged sweet potatoes price for regular potatoes..
My favorite grocery store! Always fresh and chebureki the best!! Thank you!
Let me start with the main reason I love this place - the cakes!!! I absolutely love their sour cream cakes and honey cakes. They also sell a lot of other interesting sweets and specialty products you won’t find in regular stores. The shop used to be very small and crowded, but they expanded a couple of years ago and that’s no longer an issue. The service is always friendly and pleasant.
I am very disappointed with the service. The store has a $10 minimum for card payments, which effectively divides customers into «convenient» and «inconvenient» ones. I only needed one item but had to buy extra just to meet the limit. In today’s world, this feels disrespectful and unfair, especially to those who budget carefully. I live nearby, but I don’t want to come back, there are places that value customers regardless of how much they spend
Before I bought I asked if the cakes are fresh. But they ate at least 5-7 days! This is unacceptable! As I saw from the previous reviews it is not first time when they are selling old food. There are plenty of Russian markets here. Definitely not recommended at all. Will usually the other one
