Shōjō Boston is an Asian restaurant at 9A Tyler St in Boston, MA, bringing together a varied selection of rice dishes, fried rice, chicken, vegetables, and beef. Customer feedback points to a menu with options for different appetites, including kimchi rice with crab, crab fried rice, Shaolin fried rice, Taiwanese basil chicken popcorn, vegetable stir-fry, and beef ribeye. With a 4.3-star rating across 1,428 reviews, Shōjō Boston has drawn a broad range of diners, and the reviews offer useful detail about what to expect when planning a visit.

Rice dishes are a recurring favorite in customer comments. One pair of diners enjoyed the kimchi rice with crab and crab fried rice, describing both as plentiful and full of flavor. The kimchi rice was noted as spicy without being overwhelming, while another guest described the kimchi fried rice with fried chicken as tasty, with a medium spice level. Taiwanese basil chicken popcorn was also singled out for its flavor. These dishes may appeal to guests looking for a filling meal with savory, spicy, or fried options; spice descriptions are personal impressions, so diners who are sensitive to heat may want to ask the restaurant about current preparation.

The menu feedback is not uniformly positive, which can help set realistic expectations. Some customers appreciated the generous portions and said a single plate may be enough for one person. Others found particular fried rice dishes oilier than expected or wished certain flavors were bolder. Experiences with service also varied: some reviewers described servers as friendly, nice, and helpful, while others felt interactions were limited or less welcoming. For visitors, this means service and preferred flavor intensity may depend on the occasion and individual taste, rather than being consistent for every table.

Guests have described the decor positively, and one reviewer who visited around 3 p.m. found the restaurant quiet, making that visit feel relaxed. Another customer mentioned noticing a damp, humid smell on entry, so impressions of the dining environment differ. Shōjō Boston may suit friends, couples, or diners exploring Asian restaurant options in Boston’s Tyler Street area, especially those interested in generous rice plates and chicken dishes. Check directly with the restaurant for current hours and menu details, since hours were not provided in the available business information. Whether stopping in for a filling lunch or sharing a meal with company, the customer accounts suggest a place where portion size, spice, and dish choice are worth considering.

We both ordered rice dishes -- kimchi rice with crab and crab fried rice -- and really enjoyed them. The portions were plentiful and full of flavor. The kimchi rice is spicy but not over the top. I added crab to it and my only complaint is that they don't give you very much especially considering it's a $10 add-on. Other than that, everything exceeded our expectations. Service was fast. We had a late lunch so we were the only ones there. The restaurant was clean and the staff nice.

First thing I noticed when I entered the restaurant was the place had a slightly damp, humid smell, but decoration was nice. Service was almost non existent. The host and server were not real nice, and never smiled, or had any emotion at all in the little interaction they had with us (except at the end when they brought the check) We ordered Kimchi Fried Rice with Thick Cut Pork Belly (Rice was great, but not so great to go to a restaurant with bad service, I can tell you at least 5 other great Kimchi fried rices with better prices and service) We also ordered the Shojonator, added a fried egg and a side of shadowless fries. Rice came first, burger came exactly 17 minutes after. We were already full by the time it arrived and they didn’t even apologized. Fries were good (only 2 pieces of tofu, to be exact) and burger was OK, but not out of this world.

Went to Shoju and had a pretty solid experience 🍚 Got the kimchi fried rice with fried chicken and also the Taiwanese basil chicken popcorn, both were tasty, spice level was medium so nothing overwhelming, just good decent flavor overall. Went around 3pm so it was quiet which was nice, made for a relaxed meal 😌 Good spot if you're looking for something flavorful without it being too intense, would go back to try more off the menu!

Server was nice and helpful. Did not enjoy food though. The portions were very large and you may only need one plate per person. …

We ordered the Shaolin fried rice, but unfortunately it was much oilier than we expected. The vegetable stir-fry and beef ribeye were both enjoyable, although we found the flavors to be a bit mild for our taste, so it's probably not a place we'd return to. On the positive side, the servers were friendly and welcoming. The washroom sink is a unique art installation and definitely eye-catching, though we found it a little impractical to use.
