Story Supermarket

This is a Vietnamese/Asian grocery store. It is not that big and a little untidy. But we like to come here to get their meat which is of very good price. They have whole brown chicken for $13.99 only, which we cannot find anywhere else in this area.

What kind of market has cashiers who can’t even properly distinguish real money from counterfeit? I went in to make a purchase, and my total was around $246. I handed them two $100 bills, and they kept using a counterfeit detection pen, but it was clear they didn’t actually know how to determine if the bills were real or fake. Instead of handling the situation professionally, they made me feel embarrassed in front of others, as if I had intentionally handed them fake money. My mom even said, “Okay, I’ll take it to the bank to check,” but then the owner came out to inspect the bills. To my surprise, even he couldn’t recognize whether they were real or not! And instead of addressing the issue properly, he bluntly said, “If you take that to the bank, they’ll confiscate it.” At that moment, it became clear that they had no real knowledge of verifying money. If they truly had concerns, they could have approached the situation in a much more professional and respectful manner. A little professionalism and courtesy go a long way, but unfortunately, they lacked both. Never come back again!!!!!

I happened to be nearby and since I was planning to do some groceries, I decided to try out this place. It is probably one of the oldest Asian supermarkets in the area? To my surprise, this grocery has everything an Asian supermarket can offer. The one that I was most impressed with was the seafood department. I bought a big, fresh catfish and the big gentleman there took a very dear time to clean the fish and its skin. The vegetables are mostly small but it is sufficient for daily dishes. I will definitely visit this place again.

This supermarket has been in the neighborhood for 20+ years. I remember walking here daily with my grandparents every afternoon. We live right by the church around the corner and this store has always been a staple in my family. We personally knew the owners way back when and the employees were always very nice. It's a very tight knit community. I've seen the same people work here since I was a child. I even remember an instance my dad forgot his wallet when buying me a meat Bao Bun. Since we were so well known there the cashier said "It's okay we'll get it from grandma and grandpa later in the afternoon" haha that was way back in the days though. As an adult I came here to buy Henny and alcohol as they had the best prices. I love coming here for the snacks, a cold drink, or anything really for a remnant of the past . My family still goes to this grocery market till this day. Amazing place of the community. You can eat a meal at Dong Phuong right after!

The store is bit dirty n some of the produce doesn't look fresh. The fish n meat depth looks ok. Selection of other items are good.
