Surreal Creamery is an ice cream shop at 1016 Race St Unit 2 in Philadelphia, PA, in the city’s Chinatown area. It offers a playful stop for a cool treat, with flavors and serving styles that invite you to mix and match. Customer favorites mentioned in reviews include taro, Cookie Monster, and combinations with coconut. If you are looking for an ice cream shop in Philadelphia for a casual dessert or a fun outing, Surreal Creamery is a local option to consider. Its 4.3-star rating across 173 reviews offers a helpful snapshot of customer feedback, while individual preferences about flavor and texture naturally vary.

Reviews describe generous mason jar servings, with some guests finding them large enough to share. The jars can make a visit feel more like a substantial dessert than a small scoop, and customers have mentioned enjoying taro with coconut as well as Cookie Monster. Some reviewers say the portions feel satisfying without being overly heavy; others describe the flavors as enjoyable but not especially bold. That range of impressions is useful if you are deciding whether to order a familiar flavor or try a pairing. Availability may vary, so a particular option, including cheesecake custard, may not be in stock on every visit.

The shop’s appeal also extends beyond ice cream. Visitors have mentioned drinks and Tokidoki events featuring merchandise and collectibles, describing the events as an entertaining part of the experience. These special events may be of interest to fans who enjoy character collectibles and themed outings, though they are not necessarily part of every visit. Reviewers also note friendly staff and a small, tidy space. Seating has been described as less comfortable, so the experience may suit a quick stop or a takeout treat better than a long, relaxed stay. For friends, couples, families, and visitors exploring Chinatown, the generous portions can make sharing easy.

Surreal Creamery is open from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. These hours make it a possible after-dinner dessert stop during the week and a later option on Friday and Saturday. Check current hours and flavor availability before visiting, especially if you have a particular item in mind. Whether you are curious about taro, want to try a Cookie Monster jar, or are looking for a playful dessert break in Philadelphia, this Chinatown ice cream shop offers a variety of choices in a compact setting.

Loved this ice cream shop! The taro and cookie moster paired well. I will say it didn't have much flavor and was similar to a vanilla cream flavor. The serving size was great too!

We got the taro ice cream with coconut and cookie monster jar(sans marshmallow) and they were both very good. I was a little worried about feeling sugar bombed by the size of it but it was not too heavy and the flavors were very good.

the tokidoki events were so much fun! i can’t wait to come back, the drinks were pricey but well worth the merch and collectibles, and the staff is as sweet as the treats they make! shout out the workers under these suits, they’re so sweet

This is my third location I've been to and I love the way they do their creamery but I'm very disappointed with cheesecake custard being out of stock. Otherwise, I have a thrill and feel like a big kid again with the place with the choice they have.

This Chinatown ice cream joint is small and tidy, but those chairs? Not comfy at all! Staff's super nice though, adding to a good experience. Their mason jar servings are massive – seriously, perfect for two! But taste-wise, it's just okay, not mind-blowing. They've got variety, but the one that I tried - Chocolate Blackout, lacked that extra oomph. It's a nice spot to chill and share a treat. Overall, it's a decent hangout for a quick ice cream fix with a bud, but could step up the flavor game for a real knockout experience.
