Surreal Creamery is an ice cream shop at 3818 Chestnut St in Philadelphia, PA, serving soft-serve and other playful dessert combinations. Customer reviews highlight flavors and pairings that go beyond a familiar scoop, including taro soft serve, matcha and taro swirls, bubble tea, and Vietnamese iced coffee ice cream. If you are looking for a dessert stop in Philadelphia where you can try something a little different, Surreal Creamery offers options that invite mixing and matching rather than sticking to one flavor.

Taro is a recurring favorite in customer feedback. One visitor describes its taste as mildly nutty and says it was a welcome surprise after usually choosing classic flavors such as vanilla, cake batter, and cookie dough. Another review praises the taro soft serve for its smooth, creamy texture and gentle sweetness. Matcha and taro together also appear as a bubble tea combination, topped with small waffle cookies. These details make the shop worth considering for guests curious about distinctive flavors, as well as soft-serve fans who appreciate a balanced, not-too-sweet dessert.

The menu’s appeal also comes from pairing drinks with ice cream. A customer’s go-to order is Earl Grey bubble tea topped with Vietnamese iced coffee ice cream, a combination they describe as floral, mellow, and well balanced. Another reviewer calls an ice cream float made with bubble tea a “Flotea.” These customer favorites suggest a visit can be about more than choosing a cone: you might explore a tea-and-ice-cream pairing or enjoy a dessert that brings familiar drink styles together with soft serve. Reviews also mention cookie dough bites as an add-on, though available choices may vary.

Reviewers describe friendly service and a welcoming place for a celebratory treat, including visits with teenagers after school or graduation. The shop may suit friends, families, and anyone looking to make an ordinary dessert outing a little more memorable. Surreal Creamery has a 4.4 rating from 222 reviews, reflecting a range of customer experiences; one review reports a problem with a delivery order, so customers ordering through a delivery service may wish to check their order on arrival. For an in-person visit, the Philadelphia shop is open Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from noon to 11 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. Hours and menu availability can change, so confirm current details before heading over.

Amazing customer service, and great options! Tried the Taro with cookie dough bites added (it's basically a yam with a mildly nutty taste) and it was very actually good...for context, I've stuck to vanilla, cake batter, cookie dough, and "plain" flavors with no fruit in/on them. But this surprised me. Definitely recommend giving it a try. In the picture it's the lavender ice-cream. Adults had the chocolate/vanilla swirl cone, and a vanilla cup with fudge and oreos, and the kids had cookie monster with sprinkles.

I love this spot. My go-to order is the Earl Grey bubble tea topped with the Vietnamese iced coffee ice cream. It’s perfectly balanced: the tea’s floral notes shine through while the ice cream adds a deep, mellow sweetness that never feels overpowering. I’ve been back a few times now, not just for the sweet treats but for the aesthetics—the desserts look gorgeous, and the space itself is bright and great for hanging out with friends. It’s become an easy favorite!

This dessert spot is a dream for soft-serve lovers! I got the taro soft serve, and it was perfectly smooth, creamy, and had just the right amount of sweetness. The matcha and taro swirl in the bubble tea cup was another standout—such a unique combo, and the little waffle cookies on top were a cute touch! The portion sizes are generous, and the flavors taste fresh and natural. The shop itself has a clean, modern vibe, making it a great place to sit and enjoy your treat. Highly recommend for anyone craving high-quality soft-serve and fun dessert drinks!

They were so nice we had to go twice. Schools Out! Celebrating with your teens is easy at Surreal. The creations are so awesome they honestly look too good to eat!! First, of all I love a good Flotea. Which is an ice cream float made with bubble tea. My second visit was after my son's graduation and near closing so there was no boba. I had fragrant, yummy lychee to replace the boba and it was wonderful.

Do NOT order on uber eats. They do not give enough ice cream at all compared to uber eats and completed missed adding any of the toppings on my order. Additionally I did not even get the ice cream for the ice cream/cake order.
