Sign in to reviewWhat a fun and interesting place to shop. The owner himself is a bit of an antique and fun to talk with. Cooper gives it 5 wags.
The owner is an incredible wealth of knowledge, and so generous with sharing tips about best places to go in the bay for antique hunting, even if he's sending away business. Great store!
Purchased a blanket. Was told a story about itinerant weavers in 19th century America making wool coverlets on commission for affluent households. Owner certainly had some real ones on display, with names and dates in the corner. However— the one he sold me is a Welsh tapestry blanket only about 10 years old. Not American, not antique, not even vintage. I had it in storage for a while, and pulled it out yesterday to display. I was always a little suspicious about its condition, which is excellent. So my curiosity reignited, I did some research and discovered that I have no antique at all. It’s quite contemporary. It was woven for Jane Beck at the Melin Teifi mill in Wales just about 10 years ago. Jane Beck confirmed herself. Explains the excellent condition! This is a warning to purchasers that the owner might not be knowledgeable or forthright about all of the “antiques” he sells. I might have purchased it anyway, if I was informed that it was a high quality traditional Welsh textile from recent production. But I wasn’t informed of the actual provenance or history and was led to believe I had a 19th century antique. Not so!! Not great!!
Such great finds! Got a HUGE shell and this gorgeous elegant ring
