Sign in to reviewOne of the best Viet Seafood Spots in Orange County! My favorite dish from this restaurant is their lobster noodle stir fry. I highly recommend this place!
Tan Cang Newport Seafood is always on my must-eat list when I’m in Irvine! We got there a little after 5pm and luckily didn’t have to wait in line. As soon as we sat down, I noticed almost every table had the lobster—it looked amazing and definitely lived up to the hype. Our recommendations: • Lobster with Yee Mein – The star of the night! The noodles had such a unique texture—smooth yet slightly chewy—and soaked up the sauce perfectly. The lobster was super clean, easy to eat by hand (no tools needed), and packed with meat. Even the smallest portion was huge—we couldn’t finish and brought some home, and it was still delicious reheated. Best part? The price is unbeatable, around $100+ for 3–4 people. • Fish Ball Soup – Simple but so fresh. The fish balls had a firm bite, and the broth had a texture almost like shark fin. A splash of vinegar made it even better! • Stir-Fried Oysters – First time trying oysters this way. They had a bit of that natural brininess, but paired really well with rice. A fun dish to try if you like something different. Overall, a must-try spot with generous portions and great value.
Tried the lobster udon noodles and the frog legs. Originally I gave this place a try because my friend said they were better than Capital Seafood, but I think I have to disagree. I'm not sure what it was, but the don't noodles had an unpleasant taste for me. Almost as if they were precooked, sitting for a while and starting to go bad? The lobster was good, but could've been more crunchy and the udon noodles that came in the dish were way too long! About double the size they normally are. 100% prefer Capital Seafood for the lobster noodles & also price because I order the same lobster noodles + a different dish & paid around $30 less if I remember correctly, and I had a bigger lobster there too... However, the frog legs here did not disappoint! They were SO flavorful, didn't taste as fishy as other frog legs I've had. I liked the crunch on the legs, but some legs did have a bit too much breading, wasn't that big a deal, though. I did have a Thai Tea and it was a solid Thai Tea, but a might more on the sugary side and filled with a lot of ice!
This restaurant feels really dirty. Chairs are grungy and the floor was muddy. People smoke outside and the door is constantly open because they have siting outside. Service was bad. It looks like the workers are just hanging out and just can’t be bothered. They gave us lid water for the kids without straws, and never delivered when asked. Never cleared out plates that were empty or need replacing due to shells. The food is so-so. The lobster was just okay. The vegetables are in small portions. Porkchops meat tasted old. The lobster aquarium is right next to the bathroom. The floor is all mudded. Saw kids playing with the lobsters. Like handling it without any adults around. It took 30 minutes to get the check and another 10 minutes for them to give back the card I wouldn’t recommend this place.
My son picked this Tan Cang Restaurant, not to be confused with the one down the street, for his birthday dinner with some of the family. Ordered everything from the House Specialty Lobster to French Beef with Fried Rice & Noodles & Vegetables etc. What a wonderful experience with the Owners, Staff and Food! You've GOT to try this place! I assure you, you won't be disappointed! -- revisited just now. Perfect again today for Mother's Day 2026!!!
