The staff are always friendly and welcoming, which makes every visit feel special. The food and drinks are consistently delicious, and you can really tell everything is made with care. My go-to is the hot dark roast coffee—rich, smooth, and exactly what you want to start your day. The Tiger cold drink (milk tea version) is such a fun and yummy treat. Their salads are incredibly fresh, and the dressing is honestly amazing. I also highly recommend the eggplant sandwiches—so flavorful and satisfying. Don’t skip the treats! The chia pudding is light and delicious, and the chocolate chip cookie is absolute perfection—a must every time. Whether you’re stopping by for coffee, lunch, or something sweet, this spot never disappoints!
Smooth, creamy, exquisite cappuccino! It was so nice I ordered it twice (both hot and cold)! The baristas work in the center of the cafe and can serve you directly at your seat (very limited bar stools). Can get really busy and loud, most folks take their delicious coffee and treats to go. There’s a public space across the street at 1111 Broadway in the basement if you are meeting friends! The staff are top notch and expert level. I ordered a cheddar and chive biscuit that was flaky and decadent, and a TCHO chocolate chip cookie to go. The cookie was divine. Light, not too sweet, buttery, incredible flavor. I’ll be dreaming of my next visit!
If you love a good coffee (or even want a break from it), Mr. Espresso is always a win for me. I usually stick to my favorites—the iced Tiger, butterscotch latte, or a rich dark roast—all consistently fresh, bold, and full of flavor. But today I tried something different —the Golden Milk Latte, and wow… such a great alternative to coffee! The warm blend of spices is comforting yet energizing, giving you that “wake up” feeling without the strong jolt that coffee can bring. It’s smooth, flavorful, and honestly just what I needed.
An absolute must visit when in Downtown Oakland. The Cafe by Mr. Espresso has been on my ‘East Bay Coffee Heads’ collection since day 1! I really love how they collaborate with local chefs in the Bay to create fun drinks that reinvent just grabbing a cup of coffee. In 2023, I first visited and tried their limited Orange Creamsicle Cold Brew topped with cold foam and candied orange peel. I was immediately hooked! Gosh, I was so sad when that item came off the menu. I almost hesitated to try their new collabs going forward because I knew I would be so heartbroken when it was the end of the collab period. I’m super grateful that their Cold Brew Tonic is one of their staple menu items, because it reminds me *a little bit* of the orange creamsicle cold brew in terms of acidity and fruitiness. Another absolute banger of a drink that they released was the Sago’t Gulaman Iced Coffee in collaboration with Harold Villarosa. I was lucky enough to try it on a Friday so I came back the next day and ordered three to go to save for the next few days since they’re closed on Sundays. I had the opportunity to enjoy my coffee there the other week and tried their newest drink— White Choke-Late! Who would’ve known that sunchokes could pair so well with coffee. The bar-style ordering is also quite interesting. It creates a very casual atmosphere between the customers and the baristas which I adore! Everyone is always so helpful and super quick to prepare your drinks. Even when there’s a huge rush, the team always seems to be so level-headed. I absolutely recommend enjoying your drink there if you have the opportunity to. The vibes are immaculate, the drinks & pastries are top tier, and the service is excellent. Say hi to everyone, even the owner, i believe his name is Luigi. He is so kind and helpful & always looking for feedback whenever he’s there. Thank you to The Caffe Team for always producing consistently high quality coffee & other drinks!
Always a warm welcome greeting. I like that there is something new on the menu every time I visit. Local support and the vibe is very Bay Area with just the right amount of new modern contemporary esthetic. The coffee is warm and delicious, not commercial. The location is perfect and put you right in the heart of Downtown Oakland near all transportation making this a location where you can either sit and chill ir get it and go. Easy to access and ADA friendly.
