Bottom Line Up Front: THH Sandwiches & Coffee is my go-to chain when I want to-go Vietnamese food, and this location doesn't disappoint. The Background: Tan Hoang Huong (or THH) has built a reputation for offering some of the most delicious banh mi (Vietnamese submarine sandwiches, pronounced "bun me") in Southern California, so much so that it now has multiple locations throughout Orange County. But it also serves other traditional Vietnamese fare like noodle soups, porridge, and appetizers. This review, however, will focus only on this Anaheim location. The Food: My wife and I got several dishes for a family gathering. They all ranged from decent to delicious. Here's a brief rundown: * Banh Mi Heo Quay: This crispy pork belly sandwich was absolutely tasty (though they pulled back on the meat portion). * Banh mi Dac Biet: You can never go wrong with this classic combo if you want a cold submarine. * Bun Rieu: This crab cake vermicelli soup had excellent flavors, though it was light on the crab cake meat. * Banh Cuon Nhan Thit: Meant as a light breakfast, these pork-filled flour sheets are good any time of day * Mi Xao: The stir fry egg noodles were actually just OK; a little dry. * Cha Gio: These are one of the store-bought pork egg rolls you can get in Southern California * Caphe Sua Da: This Vietnamese Iced Coffee is strong, authentic, and delicious. The Location: In an interesting twist, THH shares this location with a Tastea inside a strip mall at the corner of Ball and Euclid. It's not the best location, but the store itself is clean and well kept. Unfortunately, it's set up as a to-go joint, so there was only one table and four stools available. I saw a handful of tables set up closer to the Tastea area. Definitely not an ideal spot if you're looking for a dine-in place or hangout spot for your group of friends during peak hours. The Service: Like most Vietnamese restaurants, high-quality customer service can sometimes be lacking. Don't get me wrong, it's not that the employees are rude or incompetent. They are quick and efficient. It's just that you won't get many smiles or extra friendly attention that you might get from a sitdown Western establishment. Ironically enough, understanding this going in will make your experience more pleasant. The Prices: Considering that we bought more than half a dozen items and our bill came out to be only about $100 — in this inflated economy — we're happy to still find good food at affordable prices. The Conclusion: While I wish it could be a more welcoming hangout spot (like a cool cafe) and some of the meat portions were a little on the light side, the fact that we can still buy authentic Vietnamese food that's actually tasty and doesn't break the bank makes THH a high-value to-go spot. My real rating is 4.5 out of 5, but since I can't give half stars, I'll round up. We will return.

The sandwich is decent. Pretty empty. Needed more veggies and tofu in the sandwich. Feels like I am only eating bread. The staff seemed childish and were playing around more than focusing on elevating the food. There are definitely better places than this to eat banh mi.

The food was satisfactory, but it would be improved if the food was prepared fresh and warm. The food served at the counter is not refrigerated, resulting in it being served at room temperature. While the prices are reasonable, the food could benefit from being fresher or, at the very least, kept cold until ready to serve. The ambiance was pleasant, with an enjoyable selection of music. Overall, the experience was average.
