With a 4.6-star rating from 281 reviews, Uncle Tetsu has become a local option for Austinites seeking soft, carefully made sweets with a distinct Japanese dessert style.

The original cheesecake is the standout choice: creamy, fluffy, and softly textured, with the gentle sweetness and subtle jiggle that define Japanese cheesecake. Rather than a heavy New York-style slice, it is airy and tender, making it easy to enjoy as an afternoon treat, after-dinner dessert, or shareable pick-up for home. Customers also mention baby cheesecakes in several flavors, including original and ube, for those who want to sample more than one variety.

Beyond cheesecake, Uncle Tetsu in Austin offers cheese tarts and biscotti. The ube cheese tart is noted by customers for its dense texture and pronounced ube flavor, while biscotti provides a crisp complement to the shop's softer baked goods. Flavor preferences naturally vary, especially among choices such as matcha and black sesame, but the menu gives dessert fans a chance to explore familiar and more distinctive Japanese-inspired flavors at their own pace.

The atmosphere is best suited to a simple, cheerful dessert outing: stopping in with friends, bringing home a box for family, or choosing a sweet gift with cute packaging. It is a fitting destination for cheesecake enthusiasts, first-time visitors curious about Japanese confectionery, and anyone who prefers desserts that feel light rather than overly rich. Knowing that the cheesecake is intentionally soft and delicate helps set the right expectation and makes the experience more enjoyable.

Open daily, generally from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with later 8:30 PM closing times on Friday and Saturday, Uncle Tetsu makes it convenient to plan a dessert stop in Austin, Texas. Uncle Tetsu’s cheesecake is creamy, delicious, and fluffy. One important note: this is Japanese-style cheesecake, not a typical New York-style or grocery store cheesecake, so it’s good to have the right expectations before trying it. It’s lighter, softer, and more delicate. We also tried the tarts, including ube and matcha, and they were very delicious as well. Overall, it’s a great spot if you enjoy lighter, fluffy desserts and want to try something a little different.

If you’re craving a dessert that’s light, fluffy, and melts in your mouth, Uncle Tetsu’s Japanese cheesecake is the answer. Unlike the rich, dense New York–style cheesecake, this version is soft, airy, and slightly jiggly—almost like a sweet cloud. The subtle sweetness makes it easy to enjoy without feeling too heavy, and the texture is so unique that one slice is never enough! One thing to note: because it’s so delicate, it’s best eaten the same day (though refrigerating works too, the texture just changes a bit). The price is fair for the quality and size, and it makes a perfect treat to share—or not share at all! Overall, Uncle Tetsu delivers a one-of-a-kind cheesecake experience that’s worth the hype. It’s a must-try for dessert lovers!
