Unicorn Hair Queen Extensions

On Sunday, April 26th, I had an appointment at Unicorn Hair in Dallas that ended up costing premium price (minus a $150 deposit paid two weeks prior). From the beginning, they were very heavy on marketing and promotions. I went in for an in-person consultation with my family 2 weeks prior, and the stylist assured me she had experience, even though she was doing “model” rates, she explained she was still on hourly pay and hadn’t switched to commission yet—not because of lack of skill, but due to the salon pay structures, & that she had the experience for this big change and was confident in her skills. She showed pictures of her other transformations. I chose to trust her. About a week before the appt, I had a second consultation via video with the manager, Rebecca. I made it very clear that I was anxious and concerned about having enough hair, since I’ve previously needed around 300+ grams. I even considered canceling, but she reassured me multiple times that I’d be fine and that the stylist was very good—almost promoted to Level 1. So I kept the appointment. The day of, I came fully prepared. I brought four tubes of my own soft pink color (not neon or hot pink), a dilution shade, my pink shampoo for pre-toning, and custom tinsel I spent hours making. While mixing, I specifically asked for small amounts of the pink she had if needed but the stylist added much more than I requested. I had her use all my dilution shade. Then she ran out of color (she used so much on my hair unsure why since it’s short) and she made the extensions a lot more neon bright hot pink. Oh, Before even seeing the final result or starting my extensions, I was asked to pay in full. She ran out of the color I brought and started adding more of her hot pink on the extensions. At that point, I knew the tones wouldn’t match. My natural hair processed into a deeper soft pink, while the extensions turned bright/neon pink. Now comes the install. She used about one small bag (around 20–22 pieces, roughly 30g) for the entire front/top of my head. Let that sink in—30 grams to cover my whole front. The rest of the 200 grams or 7 bags was placed in the back. I have short, thick hair, so this left the front extremely thin, patchy, and completely unblended. It was obvious there wasn’t enough hair, but the service continued anyway. She noticed as she was installing. After 7 hours (I checked in at 2:36pm and left after 9:30), the final result had mismatched color, visible gaps, and poor blending. The photos and videos taken only highlighted the “good angles,” not the full reality. I immediately reached out to the booking line to speak with a manager. I was told I’d have to pay more if I wanted it fixed by adding more hair — suggested placement moved further down. The options being to adjust placement, or pay for more hair but with my short hair, that would have made the blend even worse moving the placement lower. It didn’t make a difference in the front. I then got 3 consultations from extension specialists with 10+ years of experience. All confirmed the issue was not placement—it was lack of enough hair and poor blending for my hair type and density. I ended up canceling all follow-up appointments and fixing the color and adding more myself out of pocket. I let the color issue slide, but the real problem is the install and lack of accountability. I was basically left with hair that was not properly blended unless I paid even more. I’m the victim here but they’re not liking their work exposed. A professional shouldn’t take advantage. This situation caused me severe anxiety and stress—that I even had to see a doctor for my symptoms. After giving the salon opportunities to make it right, I decided to share my honest experience with full transparency. This company has since used scare tactics and bullying my friends and anybody who has reshared my story but because in Texas truth is a valid defense, my review stands. This wasn’t high standards or high quality. I’ve also filed complaints with TDLR and the BBB.

I had such a great experience getting my hair done! Helena and Piper did an amazing job with my extensions — they look so natural and blend perfectly with my hair. They were incredibly skilled and made sure everything was placed comfortably and styled beautifully. Helena finished with a blow dry that left my hair looking smooth, voluminous, and absolutely stunning. Both Piper and Helena were friendly, professional, and made the whole appointment feel relaxing and fun. They really took the time to make sure everything looked perfect, and the results exceeded my expectations. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my hair already! I highly recommend them if you’re looking for beautiful extensions and a flawless blowout.

My first stylist I had was AMAZING. However when it was time for my me to get my extensions moved up they called and told me my stylist was unavailable and the scheduled me with someone else … I had a completely opposite experience than my first appointment. So impersonal and my appointment felt sloppy and rushed. I was sent to Dallas to another stylist and it was done even worse. My advice would be to make sure you’re getting a stylist who has been there a while and ask for pictures of their work cause not all stylists are the same here. Never had sloppy work like this before

Helena was genuinely so amazing. she did the most incredible blonde transformation on my hair and was so sweet and fun the whole time. I was there for 6+ hours and the whole team was absolutely amazing i felt like a princess.

Helena at Unicorn Salon was absolutely a 10/10 experience! I had highlights, glossing, and styling done, and the color turned out gorgeous — honestly the best highlights I’ve ever had, and I’ve been getting them done for many years. Helena is incredibly knowledgeable, talented, and so fun and friendly to work with. She truly is an artist and deserves to be considered a master stylist. From the consultation to the shampoo experience, everything felt thoughtful and professional. The staff was warm and attentive, always checking to make sure I was comfortable and offering drinks throughout my appointment. This salon made the entire experience feel luxurious and relaxing. I left feeling amazing and already plan to come back for extensions. Highly recommend!!
