Universal Shopping Center is a well-known shopping mall on Bellaire Boulevard in Houston, TX, serving visitors looking for Vietnamese groceries, snacks, dining, and everyday shopping in the city's diverse southwest area. Located at Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072, the center brings together a mix of businesses that make it a practical stop for locals as well as a destination for people exploring Vietnamese food and culture in Houston. With a 4.4 rating from 379 reviews, it is a familiar gathering place for many residents.

Food is a major reason people visit Universal Shopping Center. Customers often mention the food court and the variety of Vietnamese foods, sweets, and casual restaurant options available within the plaza. During crawfish season, the center is especially associated with Crawfish & Noodles, a restaurant that has made the location a recurring stop for diners who take Houston's crawfish culture seriously. Whether visitors are stopping in for a meal, a sweet treat, or ingredients and goods connected to Vietnamese cooking, the shopping center offers a convenient place to explore several options in one visit.

The atmosphere is lively and functional, with the feel of a busy neighborhood commercial center rather than a quiet enclosed mall. It can be a good fit for families picking up groceries, friends meeting for lunch, food-focused visitors discovering Bellaire Boulevard, and Vietnamese-American households seeking familiar products and flavors. Weekday daytime visits may be especially convenient for those planning to eat at the food court, as customer feedback notes that restaurants are open during the day before about 4 p.m. The center is open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

As with many popular destinations in Houston, planning the timing of a visit can make the experience smoother. Reviews note that parking and entering or leaving the plaza may be more difficult on weekends and other busy periods. Some visitors have also observed standing water in the parking lot after rain. For guests who prefer a less crowded visit, arriving earlier in the day or on a weekday may be helpful. Universal Shopping Center remains a useful Bellaire Boulevard stop for Vietnamese shopping, casual dining, sweets, and the everyday energy of Houston's international community.

If you live in Houston and take crawfish season seriously (like I do 😌), then Universal Shopping Center is basically a pilgrimage site. The reason? Because this plaza is home to the legendary Crawfish & Noodles — and every single season, this is where I return. Over the years, the plaza has gradually upgraded its vibe. They’ve added sculptures, decorative elements, and little iconic touches that make it feel more lively and recognizable. It’s not just a strip mall anymore — it has personality. But let’s be honest. We’re here for the crawfish. And not just any crawfish. I’ve compared. Trust me. During peak season, I’ve tried multiple well-known crawfish spots around town. And every single time, Crawfish & Noodles wins on size. The crawfish are: • Consistently BIG • Impressively clean • Full of flavor • And always satisfying in that “mouthful” way you want during the season I actually asked the waiter once: “How are your crawfish always bigger than everyone else’s? This is unbelievable.” Their answer? They hand-pick every batch. The smaller crawfish don’t even make it to the main boil — those get used for fried rice or other dishes. The big, beautiful ones? Those are reserved for the people who show up specifically for crawfish season. That level of selection matters. Because size is one thing — but clean, properly sourced, well-selected crawfish? That’s what separates good from elite. So yes. Every crawfish season, you will find me here. Parking lot full. Hands messy. No regrets. Bravo 👏

I went to the food court for the first time in ten years. I enjoyed the food immensely. All the restaurants are open weekdays during the day before about 4pm. I don't know what it's like on weekends in the evening.

10/25/2025: Entering and exiting the shopping center isn’t the easiest on the weekends/busy times. When it rains, the parking lot doesn’t drain well and there is a lot of standing water everywhere.

I come to Universal Shopping Center often to get sweets. Parking is a giant hassle on weekends.
