About

Walnut Street Tax Services is listed on FindALoco in Berkeley, CA with address, phone, hours, and map location. Common services and related keywords include Tax Preparation Service.

Walnut Street Tax Services is a tax preparation service located at 2001 Hopkins St in Berkeley, California 94707. The listed Hopkins Street address gives people in Berkeley and nearby East Bay communities a specific local office to consider when looking for help with annual tax paperwork. Available business details identify tax preparation as its core service, without describing a broader menu of financial, bookkeeping, or advisory offerings. For people searching tax preparation service in Berkeley, CA, this listing provides a local name, address, and weekday schedule as a starting point for comparison.

The office lists hours of 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with Saturday and Sunday closed. These daytime hours may suit people who can call, email, or visit during the workweek rather than needing evening or weekend access. Because the posted window is six hours each day and tax deadlines can create time-sensitive needs, prospective clients should confirm the current schedule, availability, appointment process, fees, required documents, and expected turnaround before making plans. An advance check can also clarify whether a walk-in visit is welcome or an appointment is needed.

Public feedback offers important context for a considered decision. Walnut Street Tax Services has a public rating of 2.1 from seven reviews, and the written comments are mixed. One reviewer says Matthew has been great to work with over the years, while another recalls finding him personable after using the service for several years. At the same time, several reviewers report delayed or missing responses, concerns about completion or filing, and difficulty obtaining follow-up after letters from the IRS or California Franchise Tax Board. These are individual accounts rather than independently verified findings, and the available listing does not explain the business's response to them.

For people considering Walnut Street Tax Services in Berkeley, a direct conversation before engagement may help establish whether the service fits their needs. Ask about the scope of tax preparation, expected completion and filing dates, the best way to reach the office, how follow-up questions and tax-agency correspondence would be handled, and how records will be exchanged. Available information presents an office-based local service but does not provide specific descriptions of its atmosphere or additional specialties. It may be most suitable for people seeking a physical Berkeley tax-preparation contact with weekday availability who are comfortable confirming logistics and communication expectations in advance.

I had been going to Matthew for the last 5 years and found him to be personable. I am very sad to say that I am so disappointed and disgusted with the service I have received, specifically in this past year. I received a notice from the IRS stating that I owed more money. It took over 3 months for Matthew to respond to me when I contacted him regarding this issue. He said he was sending info to the IRS that I had forwarded to him and it should all be ok. Not the case. I again received a notice from the IRS. I tried to follow up with him by email and phone, at least 10X, asking if he could forward me what he had sent to the IRS so I could take care of the situation myself. He has now completely ghosted me. His assistant Jennifer, who is the only one you might possibly talk to always claims he's "in a meeting.' Beside the IRS issue I have asked for the hard copies (from 4 different filings that I have paid for) of my taxes, again at least 10x. Jennifer has given me stories ranging from, two have been done and she has to do the other two but will get them out next week (4 months ago) to the office has been closed and she couldn't do it. The last time I called after leaving at least 5 messages, she changed her story completely and said she couldn't do it that Matthew had to. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS especially for something as important as your taxes! Show less

Something is VERY wrong here. Matthew prepared our taxes for several years, then when I received letters from both the IRS and Franchise Tax Board about issues related to those returns he prepared I dropped the letters off at his office. This was last May- and I never heard from him again! No response to repeated phone messages or email. I ended up paying a fine for a problem caused by him, and will obviously use a new tax preparer. The complete lack of communication is baffling. Beware. Something is very wrong.

I'm an RN and met with Matt at his office in March, then had multiple dijointed correspondences by phone and email thereafter. He is often "out of town" we discovered. We wanted to complete our taxes before the deadline, but Matt was not available. Tax day came and my taxes were not completed. We made multiple phone calls and emails asking what was going on. But, communication just got worse. So, we made plans to hire another professional; however, Matt then contacted Us stating he was in fact doing our taxes and had everything under control and I submitted some information he requested to finish the taxes. But, then I couldn't reach Matt after that. When we could get a hold of somebody at Walnut Street Tax, it wasn't Matt, but "Patrick", who just spoke in vague terms and never gave a straight answer. Patrick doesn't seem to enjoy his work as he would get irritated with Us making polite phone calls and emails just asking what was going on with our taxes; alway explaining to Patrick that we don't enjoy making such phone calls ourselves to ask these question. Patrick always stating Matt was not available at the time, but would be at an unspecific future time. It seems like Patrick is Matt's "firewall" and Patrick doesn't like customer service type work as evidenced by his irritated demeanor and inability to give clear information to clients. All tax documents and forms had been submitted, but the taxes never got completed. Even just getting a straight "Yes" or "No" from Matt or Patrick was impossible. We told them several times if they were not going to provide the tax services then just give Us a clear "No" they won't be doing the service. But, they actually misled Us to believe they were and we were foolish enough to believe it. So, I will take some blame. They are unprofessional. A big waste of time. We like to pay our taxes, and on time, so we're very unhappy with Walnut Street tax. We thought Matt had abandoned Us a couple months ago; but he contacted Us claiming he was doing our taxes. But, after two more months of being jerked back and forth, we realize we've been duped. I'm also an RN working on the front lines for Covid19 this year; so this really is a horrible way to finish the year. Words cannot describe the lack of integrity they have. I was aghast the mannor in which Patric spoke to me on the phone yesterday, like I was an idiot and the lack of respect they have for RNs or health care workers like myself.

Very unprofessional. Does not respond to calls or emails promptly; makes phone appointments, but does not call. Always finishes late, and get notice from Feds or the State saying they were not done correctly. Did not file taxes correctly or in a timely manner; always has an excuse.
