I brought my 2008 Scion xD into Yen's because it was running rough and lurching while idling. I made the mistake of saying it might be the transmission, and hours later, after they claimed to have verified that it was the transmission, they ordered a used one for an estimated price of $3500. I asked them to see if something else other than the transmission was causing the problem, and they said they would. A couple days later I picked my car up while the transmission was being ordered, and I brought it to another mechanic because Yen's said they didn't see another issue. As soon as I pulled into MJ Automotive on East 12th St. in Oakland, Juan the mechanic said he "heard" my car running rough. He immediately checked the dipstick: no oil. He filled the oil and the noise went away. Then he showed me the massive oil leak from a busted oil pressure sending unit. Cost: $189.65 ($63.56 part, $39.96 for oil, and $150 for labor). My car runs great now. Yen's almost ripped me off for $3500. When I called Yen's and told them that the problem was no oil in the engine, they said that they didn't notice that. Unbelievable! I told them that I'm never going back to them again. Whether it was incompetence or outright deception, I'd avoid Yen's at all costs.

Fast, affordable and really nice people. I'd give 6 stars if I could. Too many mechanics are trying to rip people off these days. It was nice to get some quality work done at a fair price. I will definitely be bringing all my business here moving forward.

Their ' Diagnosis ' was Very Accurate. They ' Resolved ' a ' Jammed Spark Plug 2 other Shops couldn't. Were very Honest that ' The Spark Plug Coils ' must ' Not be Changed ' until they start to ' Sputter '....... They did " Install 4 New Platinum Plugs " Reasonably ...... Would highly recommend their Integrity. Owner , Mr. Hamza was Easy 2 Talk to !!! Good Wishes ......

One of the most dishonest business I have ever experienced. They tried to play tricks in selling me unnecessary parts and extending the length of labor time by faking meaningful work. I pointed out these tricks bluntly to their face and they were embarrassed and agreed to reduce the fee... I really trusted them at the beginning because they were recommended by my friend. I really hope they can just perform the service ethically and professionally so that I would be more than happy to give more tips for being honest and saving my time and energy. Instead, they just wanted to exploit my situation as if I didn't know anything and stupid...Very frustrating experience and wasted a lot of time. For technical details: I had a check engine sign with my Ford Fiesta 2018 (42000 miles). The error codes were P0451, P0456, P2196 and temporary misfiring after gas fueling. The problem was most likely due to a purge valve that cannot switch properly, leading to too rich gas for the oxygen sensor. An decent mechanics would firstly replace the purge valve and see if the all error codes gone. However, Yen's auto service replaced the oxygen sensor directly and stayed ambiguous to me if the old sensor was broken or not. I wanted to get back the old sensor to check the resistance but they claimed they threw it away, so I was not able to check... Mostly likely, I don't need a new oxygen sensor if the old one is not broken. The second day, after the purge valve part arrives, the mechanics spent 30-min lifting my car up and performed random actions under my car. But the purge valve replacement should be very straightforward and does not require doing anything from the bottom of the car. It just needs to open the lid and only take 3-5 minutes to finish according to all the YouTube video for the same model. The mechanics was faking labor time for higher payment. I pointed out these tricks they played to their face and the manager even started to simile due to the embarrassment and agreed to reduce the fee.

These guys have been super honest and helpful. I had them do a rear brake and rotor replacement. They did a great job and were transparent in what the condition of the breaks was.
