A Salon is a hair salon at 85 Tyler St, Boston, MA 02111, serving people looking for haircuts and hair services in Boston, Massachusetts. The salon is open every day of the week, Monday through Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Its listed rating is 4.5 stars from 18 reviews. Whether you are a local resident, a student, or visiting the area, the address and daily hours make it straightforward to consider A Salon when planning a haircut or another appointment for your hair.

Japanese straight perms are one of the services customers specifically mention in their reviews. One reviewer describes a detailed, carefully done result and says the pricing felt reasonable, while also praising the stylist’s haircuts. These are personal customer impressions, not a guarantee of a particular result or price, but they give prospective clients useful context about what some visitors value at A Salon. If you are considering a Japanese straight perm, you can contact the salon to discuss your hair, the service, and current pricing before deciding whether it suits your needs.

Haircuts are another reason customers visit. Several reviews describe coming to A Salon for cuts, and one customer praises Wilson for working meticulously and giving focused attention to the haircut. That reviewer recommends the salon to men, Tufts students, and Boston residents, suggesting that A Salon may be worth considering for students and locals seeking an attentive cut. As with any salon, preferences and experiences differ, so it can help to explain the length, shape, and finish you want before the service begins.

Customer feedback is not uniform. While some reviewers describe excellent work and attentive care, another reports being unhappy with a daughter’s haircut and with how the concern was handled. A separate review describes a misunderstanding around payment and an envelope; because the situation involved cultural meaning, it is a reminder that clear, respectful communication can matter. One customer also reports that the owner requests cash only. Since payment arrangements can change and individual experiences may vary, consider confirming accepted payment methods and discussing expectations directly with the salon before your visit.

A Salon’s daily 9:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. schedule may be convenient for fitting a visit around work or classes. Its reviews point especially to haircuts and Japanese straight perms, with some customers highlighting careful attention and others sharing concerns about service or communication. For a practical first visit, describe the result you have in mind, ask any questions about the service and price, and confirm payment details in advance. These simple steps can help you decide whether A Salon on Tyler Street is the right Boston hair salon for you.

I go here for Japanese straight perms. He does a very excellent job, very detailed. The price is always reasonable. I love going to a place where someone seems to care so much about doing a good job. He also does a great job with cutting my hair. Highly recommend!

@CT Lee - OMG! you committed the cardinal sin. Cash in a white envelope (in Chinese culture) means death as in giving condolences when someone died. you probably didn’t mean to be insulting, but now you understand why he’d be pissed. You might owe him an apology ✌🏼 …

Usually go to this place for haircuts. Owner, San Ge requests cash only. Today both family members went there for haircuts. With an all the cash in hand, decided to put all the $$ in one envelope to hand to the owner. When it was time to pay, he stared intensely at the envelope, once handed him the envelope, he immediately complained, “How could you hand me a white envelope?!” Asked him curiously, “White enveloped not allowed?” He replied with raging anger, “No!” He took out the cash, threw the envelope onto the floor, walked away (no exaggeration). Very bizarre behavior over a simple envelope. Will never recommend this salon.

Beware!!! If this salon makes a mistake on your hair and chops it off !! They will not acknowledge the mistake, blame you and refuse a refund. Anne the owner was very rude as I was trying to explain the issue with how her stylist cut my daughters hair. I paid for the cut and requested a simple refund. This salon cares very little about customer service or taking responsibility. It is very frustrating. Usually people like to diffuse a customer’s anger not make them angrier. Be warned. I will never recommend this salon.
