Banh mi is a natural place to start: one traveler described the sandwich as perfect, and another reviewer called the shop one of Portland’s best spots for banh mi. For a different kind of meal, the grilled shrimp garlic noodles have earned praise for well-cooked, flavorful shrimp, delicious noodles, and fresh vegetables that add crunch without making the dish feel too heavy. Pho is also available, with extra sauces that let diners adjust the flavor to their liking. Garlic fries are another customer favorite, noted for their crisp texture. These specific dishes give diners a useful sense of the range, from a familiar Vietnamese sandwich to warm noodle bowls and shareable sides.

The atmosphere sounds informal and a little funky, with music and outdoor seating mentioned by guests. One visitor enjoyed a friendly welcome and a pleasant lunch outdoors before heading to PDX, while another appreciated a quieter dining visit. The mix of indoor dining, takeout, and outdoor seating mentioned in customer experiences can suit different kinds of stops, from a quick meal between plans to a more leisurely lunch. It may be a good fit for travelers near Portland, neighborhood residents, and anyone who wants choices beyond a single sandwich style. Banh Mi Up has a reported rating of 4.6 from 423 reviews, giving local diners a broad snapshot of customer experiences. Positive comments often mention the banh mi, garlic noodles, crispy garlic fries, and friendly staff; one takeout review, by contrast, felt that a pork belly noodle dish was less satisfying for its price and could have used more garnish or vegetables. That range of feedback is helpful when deciding what to order: guests seeking a sandwich or shrimp garlic noodles may find the most consistently praised options, while preferences and portions are personal.
