The shop has earned a 5-star rating across 133 reviews, with customers often describing a friendly, warm welcome and thoughtful service. Reviews also reflect attention to the overall space, not only what is served. It is an especially appealing local choice for anyone seeking a relaxed cafe experience in Berkeley.

Coffee takes center stage at Bench. Reviewers praise artisan coffee made with care, as well as kind, welcoming baristas who make a quick order feel personal. A lavender cappuccino has drawn enthusiastic comments for its flavor and coffee art, while a warm date latte is another memorable option mentioned by guests. Alongside espresso-based drinks, the cafe offers teas and cold beverages, giving regulars and first-time visitors choices for different times of day and different tastes. That range makes it easy to choose something comforting, floral, or refreshingly chilled.

The patisserie side is equally part of the visit. Guests mention arriving to the aroma of fresh-baked goods and finding pastries that complement the coffee rather than merely accompany it. The cheese and green onion scone has been enjoyed with a date latte, and the chocolate chip cookie is noted for its soft middle and crisp edge. These specific favorites make Bench Café • Pâtisserie a fitting Berkeley stop for a simple breakfast, an afternoon treat, or a coffee-and-pastry pause. The choices feel suited to both an everyday ritual and a small, satisfying indulgence.

The atmosphere is calm, comfortable, and inclusive, according to customer feedback. Although the space is on the smaller side, it offers table space upstairs and downstairs, allowing it to work well for a quiet read, focused laptop session, or an unhurried conversation. Free Wi-Fi, plentiful outlets, and an open bathroom add practical ease for people spending time there. With a welcoming feel rather than a rushed one, this Berkeley cafe suits students, remote workers, nearby residents, and visitors looking to settle in. The setting invites guests to linger respectfully and enjoy the pace of the neighborhood.

For a morning coffee or daytime pastry break, Bench Cafe • Patisserie is open Monday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM and Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM; it is closed Sunday. Its convenient Martin Luther King Jr Way address places it near Downtown Berkeley while retaining the feel of a neighborhood discovery. Checking the schedule before a visit is helpful, particularly for Monday's shorter service window. Stop in for carefully prepared coffee, a noted pastry, and service that guests consistently describe as gracious.

Both hands up for this wonderful coffee place I happened to stumble upon, right outside the skirts of Downtown Berkeley. They're located right on the intersection of MLK and University, right behind the Indian restaurant. This coffee place is honestly a little bit small, so please proceed with caution at all costs. But it really makes you feel cozy at home. They do have upstairs seating, but rather really limited. It will be full at times, and at times, not at all. It depends on the time that you go. They have a wide assortment of sweet and savory pastries available as well. I got their ham & cheese scone, as well as their speciality drink, their banana cream iced coffee. I love how balanced their iced coffee is with the banana cream, which surprisingly, is made with ACTUAL banana puree made from actual bananas. The barista who made my drink was very nice and very chill, and served it rather quick. That's what's up! If you're looking for a locally-owned coffee shop right here in Berkeley, look no further than Bench Coffee! Trust me, it will be a trip worth it :)

Lovely place- would come back and recommend! Good spot to read or work with plenty of outlets, free wifi, open bathroom, and table space upstairs and downstairs. I got the cheese/green onion scone and a warm date latte and enjoyed both. Service was great and atmosphere was calm & relaxing. Came in on a Tuesday from 12:45-2:45pm and was very quiet and not very busy. I essentially had the whole upstairs table to myself for a couple hours. Note: it seems like oatmilk substitute costs an extra 75 cents.

I just love this local Berkeley gem. Friendly, warm vibe where everyone is welcome. You can tell a lot of thought and care went into the place. The coffee is THE BEST, the pastries are amazing. From the coffee made with care and the super nice baristas to the comfy/welcoming/inclusive atmosphere, Bench Café has it all. My go to breakfast items are the Spinach Feta Empanadas and the Date Latte. P.S. the music adds a nice touch to the place.

Visited this cafe recently and it was a really positive experience. Upon entering, the smell of fresh baked goods was immediately noticeable. They have great artisan coffee and a variety of teas and cold drinks. What I found particularly impressive was the passion the team showed. Everything was incredibly delicious, clearly demonstrating their commitment to delivering high-quality service. If you're looking for a friendly environment where you can indulge in some delectable treats while sipping on your favorite drink, I’d highly recommend this place. A visit here is not just about enjoying a meal; it's about experiencing the love and care they pour into every cup and plate served.
