Bharat Bazar is a well-established Indian grocery store in Union City, CA, serving shoppers who want South Asian ingredients, everyday pantry staples, and ready-to-enjoy snacks in one convenient stop. Located at 34301 Alvarado-Niles Rd, Union City, CA 94587, the store is easy to work into errands around the East Bay. With a 4.0 rating from more than 1,000 reviews, it has become a familiar grocery destination for local families, students, home cooks, and anyone planning Indian meals throughout the week.

The selection is the main draw. Customers mention fresh vegetables, a wide variety of frozen items, frozen vegetables and snacks, Indian namkeens, desi staples, pooja essentials, dairy, meats, spices, prepared Indian foods, and organic grocery options. Reviews also call out freshly made samosas, hot snacks, and dessert treats, which makes Bharat Bazar useful for both a full grocery run and a quick bite. Whether you are preparing dosa, curries, chaat, chai snacks, festival meals, or a simple weekday dinner, the store offers many of the basics shoppers expect from an Indian market.

The atmosphere is practical, busy, and product-focused rather than boutique. Shoppers describe the store as clean and appreciate the broad inventory, while some note that prices can be higher than other Indian grocery stores nearby. A few reviews also raise concerns about checkout accuracy, staff behavior, reward promises, and limited open cash counters during busy periods. For the smoothest visit, it is sensible to compare item sizes, review your receipt before leaving, and allow a little extra time when the store is crowded. It works best for shoppers who value selection and convenience and are comfortable checking details at checkout.

One dependable advantage is the schedule: Bharat Bazar is open every day from 9:00 AM to 9:30 PM. That long daily window helps people shop after work, pick up last-minute ingredients before guests arrive, or handle weekend errands without rushing. The store is also noted for a points-based system for returning customers, so regular shoppers may want to ask at checkout how rewards are applied. Because groceries, frozen foods, dairy, prepared items, snacks, sweets, and pooja supplies are available under one roof, many customers can avoid multiple stops.

Bharat Bazar is a good fit for Indian and South Asian households in Union City, Fremont, Newark, Hayward, and surrounding Bay Area communities, as well as curious cooks looking for authentic ingredients. Families buying weekly groceries, hosts preparing for gatherings, vegetarians looking for variety, and shoppers craving samosas or sweets will find plenty to explore. For an Indian grocery store in Union City, CA with depth, convenience, and a wide product mix, Bharat Bazar remains a recognizable local option.

Bharath Bazar One of the oldest Indian grocery stores with a great selection of fresh vegetables, a wide variety of frozen items (veggies and snacks), Indian namkeens, Desi staples and pooja essentials at one place. Cons: They use a points-based system for returning customers. Must-try: Hot snacks—samosas - potato/onion and paneer pakoras ,highly addictive. Bharath Bazar is an old-school Indian grocery that still delivers.

Great selection of produce, meats, tons of spices and prepared Indian foods, dairy and frozen items, plus some freshly made samosas and dessert treats. Reasonably priced and nice staff people

Good quality of produce and a large selection of Indian groceries including organic. It has everything, it's clean but as others have highlighted that it's a bit more expensive compared to the other Indian grocery stores in the area. Moreover, the number of cash counters open at any given time is 1 or 2 and the queues get longer to pay.

Always always check your receipts. They’re running scam they added items which you haven’t even bought and also for the same Product they charge you for bigger items. I bought dosa batter worth 6$ smaller one but they charged me 10$ which is for the bigger one. I had same experience 3 times now, i will expose them next with receipts and live footage for sure

Extremely Disappointed with Staff Behavior and False Reward Promises! I generally don’t write reviews, but the experience at Bharat Bazar literally pushed me to do it. I’ll give 1 star for groceries and 1 star for location, but trust me — the rest of the stars are missing only because of the terrible behavior of the staff and their misleading reward policy. Here’s what happened: Bharat Bazar has a reward program where they send you text messages offering “free items” on your next visit. Sounds great, right? But when I went to redeem those rewards, the staff member said the item was out of stock. I asked if they could provide an alternative — she bluntly said no. My question is simple — if you can’t maintain the reward stock in-store, why send messages to customers offering freebies at all? It’s misleading and feels like a tactic to bring customers back under false promises. To make things worse, I made another purchase the same day and received another message for a free item — and guess what? That was also “out of stock.” This is not just poor service; this is blatant bluffing with customers. The staff (especially the lady I interacted with) was extremely rude and dismissive. No courtesy, no effort to resolve the issue, and zero sense of customer service. Just imagine if this were any American store — they would make sure to satisfy the customer and resolve the concern right away. But at Bharat Bazar, the attitude is completely different. The management seriously needs to wake up — replace such unprofessional staff and focus on customer satisfaction, not false marketing. Until that happens, I wouldn’t recommend this store to anyone expecting honest service or respectful treatment.
