Broken Rice Com Tam on Newbury is a Vietnamese restaurant at 224 Newbury St, Boston, MA 02116, in Boston, Massachusetts. Its name points to cơm tấm, the broken-rice meal that gives the restaurant its identity. For locals, visitors, and anyone curious about Vietnamese comfort food, it offers a place to stop for a familiar rice-based meal along Newbury Street. The menu details available here are limited, so guests looking for a particular dish or ingredient may want to check with the restaurant before visiting.
Customer feedback highlights the grilled pork chop as a standout, and one diner who ordered the special with a sugarcane drink said the flavors recalled meals they had enjoyed growing up. That kind of recognition can make cơm tấm especially appealing to people seeking a taste connected with Vietnamese food traditions, as well as to newcomers wanting to try a classic combination. Reviews also describe the food as simple and decent. Experiences vary, though: some guests have felt that the portions, accompaniments, or overall presentation did not match the price, while another reported receiving a smaller portion on a later visit. These comments offer a practical picture of what diners have experienced rather than a guarantee that every meal will be the same.
The setting is on Newbury Street, and reviewers suggest that its location may be reflected in the prices. If you are deciding where to eat, consider whether a straightforward meat-and-rice meal at this address suits your budget and expectations. The grilled pork chop is one specific dish guests have praised; the special and sugarcane drink have also appeared in customer accounts. Because reviews differ on value and portion consistency, it may be helpful to ask about current portions and prices when ordering. This makes the restaurant a reasonable option for someone already nearby who wants to explore Vietnamese food, while diners focused on getting the most food for their money may wish to compare choices.

Although the food is alright, the overall value is not. For the price of a simple meal (meat + rice) you will leave disappointed because: - The meat was mid-to-low quality - the salad was tasteless and very small - the plating feels like from a cheap cafeteria; - utensils (to eat and drink) are plastic (!!!) And the cherry on the top? there is no real service here: - you have to order food on a kiosk - you have to pick up your own food - you have to collect your utensils and napkins This is the kind of “restaurant” that might be better off being a ghost kitchen to order online.
Haven't had cơm tấm in years, so when I was walking by and saw this new place, I went in for a late lunch. I had the special and the sugarcane drink. Taste wise it's good, exactly like I had growing up. Price wise, well, it's on Newbury …
The food was decent, but honestly, I think it’s a little overpriced for what you get. I’m guessing the higher prices might be because of the location. I think this place would be much better if it were in a food court with more reasonable prices.
I ordered the exact same item from this restaurant twice on two different days. However, the second time, the portion was significantly smaller than the first time. I was disappointed because I expected to receive the same amount of food …
Simple but great food. The grilled pork chop was the highlight!
