One customer describes the black iced coffee as smooth and not bitter, while others call out classic beignets and iced coffee as a welcome choice on a warm day. If you are seeking a broad menu or have dietary restrictions, check what is currently available before ordering; one reviewer who avoids dairy could not try the beignets.
The atmosphere is part of the appeal. Customers place the café in the middle of French Quarter activity, making it a convenient stop during a day of sightseeing, shopping, or walking around downtown New Orleans. A reviewer who arrived shortly after opening on a Wednesday found a patio table easily and noted that the morning felt quieter; weekends may be busier, though crowds can vary. The straightforward menu suits travelers looking for a classic coffee-and-beignet break, friends meeting casually, and groups introducing visitors to a New Orleans favorite. Fresh beignets are best enjoyed soon after serving, as one to-go customer preferred them fresh over cold.

This French Quarter staple never disappoints. The coffee is strong (frozen, iced, or hot), and the beignets are delish! Right in the midst of New Orleans' French Quarter where so much action happens. This cash-only establishment delivers on a memory-making experience that reflects the tradition of New Orleans. Don't miss this stop, and walk up the stairs, across the rail tracks, and down the steps beside the Mississippi River to view the New Orleans Crescent City Connection Bridge that lights up along the city's skyline. Absolutely beautiful, and a spectacular end to your evening.
I can’t have dairy so i couldn’t try them, but my friend said they were delicious fresh. She didn’t like them when they were cold for our to go order. My black iced coffee was very good and smooth, not bitter at all. Please consider adding dairy free beignets to the menu. I would like to be able to try them.
It is indeed a place with amazing beignets. The store is the very first store of the chain, and it is worth going. However, I would also like to point out the fact that the lady (pic 2-4) that served us was asking for tips and requires us giving her 3 dollars, which was kind of unexpected and rude in my opinion. We would love to give tips for good service, but we have not met anyone that request tips directly. Additionally, we saw two workers there vaping/smoking (pic 1 is one of them) outside, and came directly inside starting serving the food, which raises some concern on the hygiene of the food they serve. It will be great if they have stricter guidelines regarding that.
A must visit in New Orleans! Classic beignets and delicious iced coffee on a hot summer day. The simplest menu ever. I arrived just after 9am and easily secured a table on the patio. (I visited on a Wednesday morning, which is definitely a slower day and not as crowded as the weekends, I’m sure.)
Café du Monde is by far my favorite place to eat beignets! Every time I visit New Orleans, this is a must-stop destination. The beignets are always hot, fresh, and covered with the perfect amount of powdered sugar. They are simply delicious! I recently brought a group of my Upward Bound students, and they absolutely loved the experience. Many of them were visiting for the first time, and Café du Monde quickly became one of the highlights of our trip. The atmosphere is fun, welcoming, and truly captures the spirit of New Orleans. If you’re visiting the city, don’t leave without trying the beignets at Café du Monde. It’s a New Orleans tradition that never disappoints!
