For many visitors, the draw starts with the banh mi. Reviewers consistently mention it as a go-to order, especially the tofu banh mi, which has been praised as especially delicious. Plant-based diners have also highlighted the fresh shredded tofu spring rolls, making this a useful stop in Oakland for people seeking Vietnamese options beyond the usual meat-centered picks. Customers speak warmly about the owner’s generosity and community-minded spirit, noting a connection to grassroots social justice work and a broader sense that supporting this business also means supporting something local and meaningful. Sign in to reviewMs. Anh Nguyen's huge heart utilizing her deli/restroom to grassroot social justice work is very admirable. We should support the cause by going to her restaurant. Their Tofu Banh Mi and 3 color desert drink are amazing.
We happened to be in Oakland and were craving bahn mi. Cam Ahn was so welcoming and the food was sooooo good. We had a great time eating there and chatting with the owner, who our two year old immediately took a liking to. We will absolutely be coming back anytime we are in the area :)
Cam Anh is such a sweet person (she gave us freebie desserts and chatted while the place wasn’t busy) and I basically grew up on this restaurant’s food! Definitely recommend supporting this local business, so invaluable to the community.
Cam Ahn is my favorite hole-in-the-wall bánh mì spot in Oakland Chinatown, hands down. It’s one of those places you almost want to keep a secret… but it’s too good not to share. The real reason this is my go-to? I eat plant-based, and they make the freshest, most delicious shredded tofu spring rolls and bánh mì. Not an afterthought, not a sad substitute—this is legit, flavorful, crave-worthy food you honestly can’t find everywhere. And then there’s the Chinese donut. Absolutely evil. Crispy, airy, dangerously good—the kind you think about later and suddenly need again. The service seals the deal. Ahn, the owner, and her staff genuinely make you feel at home every single time. Warm, kind, and welcoming in that way that keeps you coming back even when you weren’t planning to. If you’re in the area and want amazing food with heart behind it, Cam Ahn is it. 🌱🥖🔥
Second time here and it is slowly becoming my go-to Vietnamese spot esp for Banh Mi. Nothing fancy or posh, just a simple restaurant serving really comforting and authentic food. You can really taste that the dishes are made by someone who knows Vietnamese cooking well. Tried the bánh cuốn today and it was delicious. Definitely one of those hidden gems you keep coming back to. Plus the owner is too friendly and kind. Til my next visit!
