Cloudforest is an ice cream shop at 935 SE Hawthorne Blvd in Portland, Oregon, bringing together ice cream, chocolate, and a colorful neighborhood-shop atmosphere. Customer reviews give it a 4.7-star rating from 187 reviews, with particular praise for the quality of its frozen treats and chocolate. It’s a welcoming stop for people exploring Hawthorne, meeting a friend for something sweet, or looking to take home a distinctive chocolate treat. The shop is closed Monday and Tuesday and open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.

Ice cream is a standout, with flavors customers mention including strawberry buttermilk, triple vanilla, salted chocolate, and spearmint chip. One especially memorable option is cacao sorbet made with cacao fruit, a choice that offers something different from familiar dairy-based flavors. The selection can include special flavors, so the varieties available may change. Reviews describe the strawberry buttermilk as especially enjoyable, while sampling has helped visitors decide what to try. If you’re choosing between a scoop and a chocolate treat, Cloudforest gives you both to explore in one visit.

Chocolate is central to the shop’s appeal, too. Visitors praise its chocolate products and the visible care behind them, including the opportunity to see in-house equipment through a large round window. One reviewer notes that Sebastian has been making chocolate for 15 years and describes him as knowledgeable and kind when offering samples. The Magic Spread, described by a customer as a hazelnut, chocolate, and date spread, has also earned enthusiastic praise. These details make Cloudforest a good destination for chocolate fans who appreciate craftsmanship and enjoy learning a little about what they’re tasting.

The interior is described as bright, open, and colorful, with soft pastel finishes and a simple, cheerful presentation. Reviewers call the shop cute, fun, and relaxed, and often mention friendly staff. That atmosphere suits a casual dessert outing, a stop with visitors, or a browse for packaged sweets to bring home. Customer experiences with drinks are more mixed: one visitor felt an iced hot chocolate contained too much ice for its price. If ordering a drink, it may be worth checking what it includes and how it’s served.

For an easy visit, head to Cloudforest at 935 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97214, Wednesday through Sunday between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. The combination of distinctive ice cream flavors, cacao-focused treats, and chocolate made with visible attention to process gives this Portland ice cream shop a character all its own. Whether you’re curious about cacao fruit sorbet, in the mood for strawberry buttermilk ice cream, or looking for chocolate to take away, Cloudforest offers several ways to make a sweet stop on Hawthorne feel worthwhile.

The chocolates here were the REAL DEAL! You can totally feel the passion and clearly see the expertise with all the products and also so cool to see the in house equipment through the big round window inside. The shop was open, bright, and colorful with the lovely pastel textured backdrop. The ice cream scoop menu was super cute and offer dairy-free options as well! Street parking available and the location was great with lots of food options within walking distance. Service was so friendly and helpful and we loved the big windows all around so you can have a fun view no matter where you are sitting. They offered coffee drinks, matcha, of course chocolates and in-house baked goodies. The brownie was SO decadent without being too rich and wow the flavors had so many layers to it - honestly the best brownie I’ve ever had! The strawberry ice cream was creamy and made with real berries in small batches for maximum quality and flavor. Our friend got the giant macaron which was also the perfect treat without being too sweet. Please come support this amazing local business and we can’t wait to come back to try more things!

Cloudforest is a must-visit in Portland! Sebastian was so kind and let us sample some ice cream flavors- the strawberry buttermilk and cacao sorbet (made with cacao fruit!) are both phenomenal. He has been making chocolate for 15 years and it shows, very knowledgeable. I got a bunch of chocolates to gift and try, so happy we stopped in! Thank you!

Very cute shop but expensive for a drink that is mostly ice cream. I got an iced hot chocolate bc it was 90° out but the cup was almost entirely filled with ice. It’s hard not to feel ripped off when you’re paying $9 for a 12 oz drink. Especially when there’s hardly any liquid in it

They bought cute little chocolate bars on tables nice soft pastel wall art with a matching packaged items very simple and a beautiful place with some plants. They also have macaroons and cookies and other products. The staff was so nice to highly recommend.
