Returning to New Orleans after two years, our family visited Coco Korean BBQ. I have to say, both the service and the food were beyond amazing—every single dish we ordered was absolutely delicious. From the Bulgogi BBQ, Bulgogi bibimbap, and beef stir-fried glass noodles (Japchae), to the spicy rice cakes (Tteokbokki) and beef kimchi soup, paired with all the side dishes (Banchan)—everything came together to create a wonderful evening. If you haven't tried it yet, you should definitely give it a go. I bet a dinner here will not disappoint you!"
⭐☆☆☆☆ As a native South Korean who’s eaten Korean BBQ all over the U.S. and Korea, this was one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had. The biggest issue was the value. Each meat order was $19+ and the portion was incredibly small. The menu states 227g (about half a pound), but what came out looked tiny—barely bigger than my hand. I even brought it up before cooking because it looked way off. Instead of trying to address the concern, I was told they couldn’t do anything because I had already cooked it, even though I had already pointed out the portion before eating. They insisted it had been weighed. Whether it actually was or not, the portion simply didn’t look like what I’d expect for the price. What really shocked me was being charged $2.50 each for garlic, onions, and lettuce. Charging separately for basic BBQ vegetables and wraps is something I’ve almost never experienced at a Korean BBQ restaurant. When I asked why, I was told it was because of the cost of living and that people would take advantage of free refills. There were only two parties in the restaurant at the time. It would’ve taken five seconds to look around and see if anyone was actually abusing the system. However, the black bean noodles and kimchi stew were good with portion issues still continuing. The server did end up giving us a 10% discount “to make me happy,” which I appreciated, but that doesn’t fix the underlying issue especially considering bis passive aggressive tone/attitude. Even after the discount, the bill came out to $93.86 before tip. Without that discount, the total would’ve been about $104.29 before tip. That’s hard to justify considering the portions and the fact that they charge extra for garlic, onions, and lettuce. The atmosphere also didn’t feel authentic. Korean BBQ is usually about hospitality, generous banchan, and a welcoming family-style experience. This felt like being nickel-and-dimed for every little thing. Water refills were also surprisingly nonexistent despite how empty the restaurant was. For what we paid, I’d much rather go to an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ where you get significantly more food, complimentary sides, and a better overall experience. As someone who’s grown up with Korean food, I can’t recommend this place.
The staff was absolutely amazing. The food was soooooo delicious, we definitely enjoyed the food and the hospitality. Susan and her team went above and beyond to make sure everyone enjoyed their meals. First time here and we will definitely be back.
The food was good but I felt it could have been better. Maybe if we go back we'll cook our own. The wings were way too spicy, rice cakes were a little too sweet but good, short ribs tough but flavor good, idk... come try for yourself lol
I love Korean style restaurants and this one has a nice variety of dishes and well prepared meats and more than the usual number of banchan. …
