Sign in to reviewI usually don't like rice meals, but I love this spot! The portions are huge and they have a great variety. Everything tastes amazing. This rice dish is our go-to every single time.
Com tam thien huong is a staple here in SJ for Viet food, especially com tam dishes. We came here on Saturday afternoon and luckily only waited 30 minutes before being seated. The menu can be overwhelming to look at since you can basically customize and make different combinations of sides with your rice plates. To make it easier for first timers (and even for me), I recommend ordering special rice combinations! Every side was seasoned perfectly and adding the nuoc mam/fish sauce to each bite was a perfect touch. Most of the dishes contain shrimp, so if you’re allergic, I recommend ordering the shredded pork and BBQ meat rice plate or hainan chicken rice plate. Our friends ordered the hainan chicken rice plate and she said it was delicious, noting the sauces complemented the chicken well. Additionally while I can’t speak for all their drinks, the strawberry smoothie was probably one of the best we’ve had so far from Viet restaurants.
If you’re anywhere near 1759 E Capitol Expy, San Jose, CA 95121, stop what you’re doing and come here hungry. Not “I could eat” hungry… I mean clear your schedule hungry. Ordered the classic cơm tấm combo and the plate came out like it had something to prove. Perfect mound of broken rice, glossy caramelized grilled pork with that smoky char, juicy grilled chicken, a crispy edged fried egg, and that iconic shrimp paste stick just casually sitting there like it knows it’s special. Add the fresh pickled veggies and herbs and suddenly everything balances out like magic. Every bite tastes fresh. No weird powdery aftertaste like some places try to get away with. This feels like real cooking, like someone’s mom is in the back making sure everything is done right. And can we talk about the price because this is honestly shocking in the best way. $12–$20 for this?? I ate half, got full, and took the rest home and basically had food for the entire day. For under $20. In 2026. In San Jose. Make it make sense. Most places charge that just to disappoint you. Here, you’re leaving full, happy, and slightly confused why it’s not double the price. Huge portions. Legit quality. Prices that feel like a throwback. This is the kind of spot you almost don’t want to hype up, but it deserves it.
A San Jose friend took us to have broken rice dish here. So yummy and kind of “Texas size” portion. Loved it.
This is the secondary establishment I went to besides the one in Vietnam and this one is amazing. Service was extremely fast with the time it took for me to arrive back from the restroom for the food to be set. Food was delicious as always and the atmosphere is very modern and cozy. Also the food here is a bit cheaper than other places especially with the pho I ate. One thing I would criticize is that going to the restroom is a bit sketchy and the restroom needs to be cleaned and remodeled a bit but overall very nice
