DONG BA HUE is a Vietnamese restaurant in Houston, TX, located at 11528 Bellaire Blvd Ste C, Houston, TX 77072. For diners searching for authentic Huế-style cooking in the city, this is a longtime name worth knowing. According to its own history, Dong Ba has been serving Houston since the 1990s, originally on Beechnut Street, with recipes passed down through generations. The kitchen focuses on the regional flavors of central Vietnam, which set it apart from more common Vietnamese menus.
The signature dish is the Bún Bò Huế, a spicy beef-and-lemongrass nodle soup that regulars describe as delicious and authentic. Beyond the soup, guests enjoy small plates like bánh bèo and bánh cuốn, making it a good spot to sample the savory snacks and rice-flour specialties that define Huế cuisine. It works well for solo lunches, family meals, and anyone curious to taste a regional style that can be hard to find.
The business recently moved into a larger space that customers note is much cleaner, more spacious, and in a better location than before. With the added room and steady crowds, service can get busy during peak times, so visiting a little outside the rush can make for a smoother meal. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, suited to a relaxed sit-down visit rather than a quick grab-and-go. DONG BA HUE holds a rating of 4.2 from 31 reviews, reflecting a loyal following built over decades in Houston. The restaurant is open Monday and Wednesday through Sunday from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM, and is closed on Tuesdays. The early opening makes it a convenient option for a hearty breakfast bowl as well as lunch and dinner. If you are looking for traditional Huế dishes in southwest Houston, this is a dependable, family-rooted choice on the Bellaire Boulevard corridor. Stop by during open hours to try the Bún Bò Huế and a plate or two of the house bánh bèo for a taste of central Vietnam.

Sign in to reviewThe new location is a huge improvement — much cleaner, more spacious, and in a far better area than the previous one. Great job on the move! Food: The Bún Bò Huế is delicious and tastes authentic. My only suggestion is portion/bowl size: the bowl is quite shallow and the portion feels smaller than expected. Offering a larger size option (or a deeper bowl) would be perfect for those with bigger appetites. Service & Staff: Everyone is genuinely friendly and welcoming. However, on Saturdays it still feels a bit chaotic. Seating and table management could be more organized, greeting and communicating with waiting customers needs improvement, and overall staffing seems a little stretched/under-planned during peak hours. Speeding up food service and reducing wait times would help turnover tables faster and keep customers happier while waiting. Atmosphere: The restaurant could really benefit from better air circulation or air purifiers. With the rich, spicy broth and "nước mắm, mắm" smells, the air gets heavy quickly. Lowering the temperature a few degrees and improving ventilation would make the dining experience much more comfortable and refreshing. Overall, I really want this place to succeed — the food is excellent and the team is nice. With a few operational tweaks (especially on busy weekends), this could easily become a go-to spot and keep customers coming back regularly. Hope the owners see this as the constructive feedback it’s meant to be! Wishing you all the best and more packed tables soon.
Used to love this place so much. Went to the old location for years but I feel like the food isn’t as good anymore. We complained about the egg being very overcooked on a rice place and they charged us $2 for another egg and didn’t even bring the egg out until we were already done with our food. Overall just disappointing.
The food was delicious, but it would be even better if they could work on speeding up the service. We ended up waiting for 20 minutes for our food to arrive, especially considering they recently moved to a larger location. The staff seemed overwhelmed by the increased volume of customers. We noticed several tables around us expressing similar frustrations, which only added to the atmosphere of impatience. Despite the delays, we agreed that the flavors were worth a return visit, as long as they could improve their timing.
New location much cleaner. Banh beo still yummy. Banh cuon noodle was a little off, like they microwave it warm as noodles was a little hard than freshly steamed.
Dong Ba has been opened since the 90s on Beechnut Street, gifting the people of Houston with rare and deeply-authentic Vietnamese Huế food. With recipes passed down from 4 generations, you simply cannot find any place that serves the true flavors of Huế in the way that Dong Ba does. Sure, they may not have any fancy accolades, but I can assure you their humble flavors will keep you coming back for more and have you abandon other Huế restaurants in the area. Today, I am so proud to see them grow in this new, beautiful location. I am even more proud to know their food remains the same since I came here when I was a child. Please show this mom and pop restaurant your support. These are the classic dishes I recommend: banh beo chen, banh nam, banh bot loc, banh it ram, banh cuon thit nuong, bun bo hue, bun hen, and hen xuc banh trang.
