First visit at Dong Nai and I will preface this by saying I have no clue what characterizes authentic, high-quality Vietnamese food, and in this instance, a good bowl of pho. But, having worked in many kitchens in Seoul, I do know what delicious tastes like and this was, for a fact, delicious. The aromatic broth had depth, flavor, and just the right amount of shimmering fat, rightly balanced by slivers of red onion, cilantro, and green onions; plus additional backup in the form of fresh crisp sprouts, basil leaves, jalapeño peppers, and lime. Table side condiments gave me the option to season to preference but abstained from doing so as it was already properly seasoned. Instead, they were made useful as a dipping sauce for the two proteins: beef short rib and thinly sliced filet mignon. The well-trimmed beef rib was so pillowy tender that I was surprised it stuck to the bone upon pull. The few pieces of filet mignon, which tasted more like thin brisket, were tougher than expected but, nonetheless, a welcome contrast to the tender short rib. Overall, a very delicious, hearty, protein-packed lunch for $20ish dollars, a very friendly price point considering the cut of meat. Their other pho options range in the $15-17 depending on your protein preference plus many other Vietnamese and Chinese offerings. Besides the food itself, service was fast, attentive, and friendly while the atmosphere was clean and relatively modern. Highly recommend if you’re looking for quality Vietnamese cuisine! .

Dong Nai is the spot! A hidden gem in Austin, serving delicious and authentic Vietnamese food. I discovered this establishment on New Year’s Day, when my usual go-to Vietnamese restaurants were closed. And I’m so glad they were, leading me to this spot! The interior design of this restaurant has a “Mom and Pop” feel to it, and the food is absolutely amazing. I ordered the “Beef Rib” Pho (Absolutely amazing and highly recommend) and Pork Fried Egg Rolls. Both were authentic and absolutely mouth-watering delicious! This is the high quality caliber of Vietnamese food I am accustomed to growing up in Southern California. Absolutely recommend this place to all my Pho Lovers. Friendly and timely service. This place needs to be rated much higher than it is!

If I could give Dong Nai 10 stars, I would. It has the most delicious food. The most accommodating staff and the ambience is incredible. The portions are out of this world, the love in the food is abundant— eat here, just do it.
