The store’s appeal is its variety and convenient Decatur Street address in New Orleans. Customers describe a lively, somewhat chaotic shopping environment with many items on display, rather than a quiet or highly curated boutique. That can suit travelers who enjoy browsing a busy souvenir shop and comparing different options in one stop. One reviewer called it a fun shopping experience and noted that there was plenty to see; another appreciated the convenient location and the breadth of the selection. The available reviews do not identify particular products beyond apparel such as shirts and hats, so visitors should treat the selection as an assortment to discover in person rather than expect a specific item.
Customer experiences with service are mixed, and it is useful to know that before visiting. Some reviews describe staff as indifferent, while others recount uncomfortable interactions involving trying on a hat, handling a shirt, or taking photographs. Those accounts are individual customer experiences, but they contrast with a review that found the shopping experience enjoyable. The shop has a 3.3-star rating from 32 reviews, suggesting that opinions vary. If you have questions about trying on items or taking pictures, consider checking with staff before doing so; this can help make expectations clear while you browse.
Down the Bayou Cajun Country Store may be worth considering for tourists and local visitors seeking a casual stop for New Orleans souvenirs on Decatur Street. It is best approached as a high-selection, browse-at-your-own-pace gift shop, rather than a destination for a particular named product or service. The listed business information does not provide opening hours, so check current details before making a special trip. Whether you are looking for a shirt, a hat, or simply an opportunity to explore a range of souvenir merchandise, the shop gives you a chance to browse in person and decide what suits your visit. As with any store, selection and the experience can differ from one visit to another.

Old Indian lady was on her phone sitting down behind the counter & yelled at my sister for trying a hat on. Then proceeds to chase me down & snatch a shirt I was looking at in the mirror yells at me and says “don’t touch unless you’re going to buy” mind you I was going to buy just wanted to see how it would’ve looked on me. I ask to speak to her boss and she says she’s going to call the cops okay so I wait and start recording because I have time baby I will play this game with you. She never calls them so we leave to another store & she follows us into the store warning the employees about us I’m assuming she told them we were thieves. Anyways based on the other reviews she has a known history of doing this to ppl. Pls put another friendly face behind the counter

I always love going the Market on my trips to New Orleans. The French Market is my favorite place to eat, on the balcony, where you can watch all the hustle and bustle, and the people watching is magnificent. This last trip meant alot as I was able to show my boyfriend most of my favorite places in the short time we were there. We had a blast!
